I knew a woman who drank real coffee, but the bishop let her slide and she went to the temple on a regular basis anyway.

Sarah? Are you actually suggesting Mountain Dew is better for you than coffee?
Not only does it contain tons of sugar (hello diabetes), but it contains tons of caffeine also. Close to the same amount as a cup of coffee.

I've been told NO. But I can drink my Mt Dew. There is more in coffee than just the caffeine. Not to mention the fact that in order to get the caffeine out of the coffee, they process it with kerosene or propane or something like that. ICK!!!
And this is coming from a former coffee drinker...
Mt. Dew...the necter of the gods...LOL

It is not the caffeine that prevents us from consuming espresso or tea. I have no idea the details of it, but there are oils in coffee and tea that don't seem to be good for you. Scorching cocoa is allowed, but some members don't drink it given that within the scriptures somewhere it says don't drink storng drinks or scorching drinks and stuff like that. But now that we've more of a style than just espresso and tea to choose from now, it is now not all sizzling drinks anymore. *notice, this is just a individual notion based on individual experience and dialogue with other participants of the Church. Some participants wouldn't consider me, might be on account that they might as a substitute be riskless than sorry, which I suppose each person would wish to be. I had anything else that I desired to assert, so if I don't forget it, an edit will likely be coming.

Nope. It isn't the caffeine that is the problem. It's the other bad stuff in coffee and tea, like the acids that tend to eat the lining of your esophogas, and stomach. The fact that coffee has now been linked to certain cancers, and higher incidences of stroke and heart attack may have something to do with it too. That's just my guess... ;)
