ISLAMABAD: Floods are expected in Nullah Leh and Rawalpindi and the district administration has been placed on high alert to meet any catastrophe, said District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas.
In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that to avoid floods in Nullah Leh, the district government had taken numerous measures but the danger of floods had increased due to heavy rains, adding that around 80 percent of the cleanliness work of the nullah had been completed but people were still throwing garbage in the nullah which could increase the danger of floods. Ikhlas said the district government had widened the nullah before the monsoon, adding that Nullah Leh’s danger level was 18 mm, but that it had reached 20 mm and flooded last time. He said that around 300 Rescue 1122 personnel had been put on high alert, 11 flood relief centres had been established and Section 144 had been imposed in the city. He said that billboards in Rawalpindi city were also being removed to avoid any mishaps during thunderstorms, adding that the Health Department had completed all necessary arrangements to provide medicines. He said the district government had decided to formulate a law against those throwing garbage and waste material in Nullah Leh, adding that strict action would soon be taken against those responsible
