Christians get an inordinate amount of air time in this forum because they are the dominant religion in America.
I think you are looking at it incorrectly. Pretty much every atheist I know knows the difference between the religions. Some of us know more about these religions than the people who actually follow them!

Well, I can sympathise with that.

I think it stems from the same reason why so many self-professed Christians on here (not all, but a sizeable and above all opinionated and vociferous body of them) appear to assume that everyone who does not wholeheartedly subscribe to every jot of their doctrine is an atheist and a blasphemer.

I am not an atheist by the way, but an agnostic in the true sense of the word. I do not know and I do not pretend to know the truth. But I have the strongest doubts that Eve was made from one of Adam's ribs. And just for saying so, I got four thumbs down! And one of the other answerers, with whom I had been exchanging good-natured banter for months, immediately blocked me! Her decision, her loss.

I think it also has much to do with the fact that Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Wyccans and adherents of other religions have a very low profile presence on Answers. I also would like to see the apparent Christian monopoly on religious truth in Answers challenged more vigorously ... but always within the rules of Answers, that goes without saying.

Not all Atheists assume that all God believers are Christian just like not all Christians assume that all who don't believe in God are Atheists either. There are different religions on this forum but there are mostly Christians and Atheists in this section.

I don't think they necessarily do. But they probably don't have a disagreement with anything you believe because you aren't Christian, except that you believe in God. And as atheists, they are probably aware of the broad interpretation this can carry.

Because Christians are the worst as far as ignorance, denial and blind faith goes. Same goes for Muslims. They're basically the same, at least to me. You're ok in my book. And that's just a metaphor meaning.. You're alright with me.

Also, most people here are either Christian or atheist, so there's definitely a dominance factor.

see Richard Dawkins (you need to do more research on atheist), but to answer your question, probably because most/many of atheist were ex-christians, so the religion of their expertise is in Christianity, but usually all atheist don't believe in any god at all.

"The reason organized religion merits outright hostility is that, unlike belief in Russell's teapot, religion is powerful, influential, tax-exempt and systematically passed on to children too young to defend themselves. Children are not compelled to spend their formative years memorizing loony books about teapots. Government-subsidized schools don't exclude children whose parents prefer the wrong shape of teapot. Teapot-believers don't stone teapot-unbelievers, teapot-apostates, teapot-heretics and teapot-blasphemers to death. Mothers don't warn their sons off marrying teapot-shiksas whose parents believe in three teapots rather than one. People who put the milk in first don't kneecap those who put the tea in first." - Richard Dawkins

Because 98% of the people that post here that say god (especially capital G) mean the Christian God. If you don't, just say what you mean.

We don't assume all people that believe in a god are Christian. We simply are directing our questions to god believers who are Christians.

What kind of question is this? You're upset that Atheists aren't picking apart your religion?

They absolutely know that I am a deist and not a Christian.

Fortunately, many atheists know that just because I believe in God does not make me judgmental of them. They offer respect because I give it.

You and I are not out to insult or convert them, nor they us.
