there is nothing to live for! I will admit firstly that i suffer with depression, i see a counsellor, who is off at the moment and i have been attending my doctor weekly but i don't live, i just exisit, i try to eat ok, sleep the right amount, get myself out of the house to do normal things but everything seems pointless. I know it's probably just a bad day for me. My doc said to ring during the week if things were too hard to cope with, but sure what could she do except put me in hospital, for fear of self harm?
I don't know what my question is but i know there's many people here that suffer with depression, do you have any words of wisdom??
I have rang the samaritans, text and email them. i cannot ring often as i am not home alone and confiding in family is not an option.
thanks. please don't answer insensitively, is it really worth hurting people's feelings for the sake of 2 points?

You have not specified your age, but from the way you write and express yourself you seem to be pretty mature person. I wonder why you are suppressing the urge to spring out and blossom. Just look around you or seek out persons who are so unfortunate that they need someone around them sometimes. If you can contribute some time, your smile, the touch of your warm hand on to theirs, I promise you, the happiness you will see in their faces will drive your depression miles away. What you need is a little acknowledgement from somebody of your presence and your worth.
Everybody suffers from depression at some point in their lives. But every person handles his or her depression differently. Remember, the more positive you begin to think, the less depressed you will get. for starters, stop using phrazes lit "it is pointless", "I dont live I just exist" and so on. Remember also that there are many options a person has in any situation - good, bad and ugly. Recognise and accept the best option and go with it. Stop feeling bad about everything. Open your eyes and see how beautiful the flowers, the sunshine, the ocean and the nature in general, are. Learn to enjoy little things and spend more time with things that give you peace.
Good luck to you dear person.

I wonder what the hell I bother being here for myself. Maybe not all that frequently but that's probably only because I don't like beating a dead horse since it's more or less on my mind (even if not entirely conciously) most of the time.
I just try to keep in mind that, this is what life is. I bet if you asked the question to people "What do you live for? What keeps you going?" you'd probably get a lot of total BS answers from people who never even gave it much thought.
Mindless zombies. You can pick out the most obvious ones who've already posted an answer to this question and seemed to not even bother reading the whole question!
Personally though, there are things I'dl ike to do. Things I'd like to get done, a point of satisfaction with myself my life and accomplishments I'd like to make before I go. That's not much. But it's something I guess. (barely enough to get me out of bed in the morning. *****-sake if I could just sleep all the time... I would. heh, and I love my job. it's just too easy to feel like it isn't enough to look forward to)
What are the things you'd like to do the most? What are the things you enjoy the most? What interests you the most? What are you the most curious about? What things might you have the most talent for? (and for that matter what is/are the best cross section(s) of all those things?)
In a world of nearly unlimited potential maybe there are some opportunities to find some simple pleasures when you need them most?

I don't know you but I do care about what happens to you because I understand depression all too well.
I would take a good look at a few things in your life; what do you eat? Is it healthy food or junk that is loaded with sugar and chemicals? I ask because that does make a difference in how our brain reacts. When you eat too much sugar, it acts as a depressant, same with alcohol, it is a depressant. So, do away with all sugar and alcohol.
Next, make sure you limit fatty foods, eat good lean meats (chicken and fish), have veggies and fruits and lots of water. Exercise is very important for depression because it will trip the endorphins in your brain (the happy feeling). Get enough sunlight too, that and calicum will beef up your mood.
I live in a place that gets very little sunlight during the winter and I have to take vit. D and calcium plus sit under a "happy light" that mimics sunlight to help.
You must push yourself daily to accomplish one thing; clean the house, read a good book, watch a comedy, etc. Make sure you listen to happy music, watch only uplifting TV and above all reach out to friends and family for support. Get out and walk, daily, to get fresh air, sun and socialize.
Last, but not least, do you have a spiritual life? This has been found to help many people, healthy or not, to lead a more fulfulling life. I suggest you check out a good church or read some good books on a relationship with God. You do have a purpose in life, that is why you are here, you just need to take some time to find out what that purpose is and go for it. Take care, hang in there, it will get better. Before you go on another medication, ask the doctor to really check you out physically and talk about doing this without meds, which many times exacerbate the problem.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I too suffered from depression, but thankfully not anymore. Tell your doctor to put you on a different kind of medication, or up the dosage, maybe it's just not working for you. And remember, someone loves you! Everything you do has a point in life because it makes you into the person you are, and the person you will become. Try helping others less fortunate. Volunteer at a nursing home or a soup kitchen somewhere. Seeing other people who suffer things much worse than you always kind of puts things in perspective. And knowing that you are helping them in even just a small way to make their lives better gives you a good feeling. Good luck honey, here's hugs (((())))

I understand how you feel. I get up on a morning wishing the day was over.
When you feel like this try to remember the people you care about - family and friends. Think about how much they care about you and how much it would hurt them if you were not around. Write down these things so that you have something to keep reminding you how important you are and how much you are needed in this world.
Please don't hurt yourself. You are special and you don't deserve to suffer. Try and find a friend to talk things through with or email me if you feel I can help. I am always here to listen to you. You deserve to be heard and helped.
Here's a big "HUG" to try and comfort you and make you feel a little better.
:-)))

I often feel like a poem There are prunes for days I don't At times I'm moved by passion Laugh at the various twists Free form my way through hangups Or measure rhyme and metre Even be profanely sacred As a poem becomes me.

Personally, I believe that depression is part of the growing up. I think everybody has been depressed at one point of their lives. It is just a phase, and it should pass if you keep yourself focused on the important thing such as: work, hobby, family, friend, etc. But the most important things: do not use any drug unless your condition is genetic. Otherwise, your condition is normal.
Sometime, keep yourself active can ease the condition, so join in a fitness club if you can afford. If not, then do some jogging or running in the park.

You may want to get a very small job .I would say as a cart pusher at Walmart. This will help you with your depression, and you will meet new people to talk with. Change your enviroment colors, and burn some pretty votives. Cut some fresh flowers yourself from the country. I would put them in a vase with sugar water and they will last longer.Volunteer someplace such as the salvation army or a hospital.
