I got a beautiful watch from my guy for Christmas. I've worn it every day, but I do take it off for sleeping at night and showers. Suddenly I am getting a rash under the band (after 6 months). I've had the rash before, I know that it is an allergic reaction to the metal in the bracelet, but why now? Why wasn't I allergic right away?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it stop (I don't really want to put a different band on it if I don't have to).

you probably have high acid in your skin. after a while, especially with lesser expensive watches, the acid begins to eat away the enamel and also the metal of the back of the watch causing the abrasive metal to rub on your skin. I have the same problem. Seiko is the least expensive watch i can wear without this being a problem, because of the quality of the watch.

You probably have a contact dermatitis as a result of an allergy to nickel. I agree that the coating may have worn off and perspiring aggravates it.

You can confirm this by taping a 5 cent piece to your wrist and see if you get the same reaction. (That's why they're called nickels!)

The two metals that people get contact dermatitis from the most is nickel and chromium. Both nickel and chromium are in stainless steel.

BTW, An American nickel coin is 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel.

After wearing it for a while the polish on the back wears off and you are exposed to the metal more. You can use nail polish to re-coat the back if you want to. But remember to do this periodically to prevent further breakouts.

maybe because it is not original or when you sweat it causes the rash

probably because it is warm and you sweat so it gets in to your skin? Maybe I really don't know
