There are two possible words in Arabic that may correspond to Layla:

1) The name ليلى: which ends with an "alef". The a at the end is long. This word refers to the feeling of ecstasy that one has when he drinks wine.

2) The word ليلة : which ends with a "ta". The a at the end is short, and if the word is not at the end of the sentence it could be spelled as laylat. This word means night.

Layla means "night."

When used in the standard greeting "layla" is the time between afternoon prayer (3:00 pm) and late-evening prayer.

Asha is then used in the standard greeting until sunrise.

(Hope I got that right!)
