Help,my new neighbours are driving me crazy!. they live above me,and have wooden floors. the problem is that they seem to be quiet all day, then come to life at night.it may sound like i am joking, but i am not-- their bed starts bashing against the floorboards at 3.30 am most nights!.it goes on for about 40 mins, then there are feet banging on the floor, toilet constantly flushing, raised voices. i end up lying awake, fuming for over an hour, and end up really tired for work. i have tried writing a note, but it hasn't made any difference. please, any advice!. i know it may sound funny to some, but i am deadly serious, how can you tell people you have never met to keep the bed quiet??? any ideas appreciated!!

Have you considered bribing them with brownies?
Seriously, though, meeting them might not be such a bad idea - you don't have to become best buds, but being friendly won't hurt (I assume you live in a decent place and these people aren't likely to be dangerous?).
People tend to be a lot more courteous to people that they know than they would be to those that they don't.
Unfortunately, it sounds like they live on a backwards schedule from yours, and even if they try, it's still going to be a problem.
If you get to know them, you might find that there are some structural/decorating things that will help - do they have a rug under their bed? etc.

My home is pretty quiet, I live in a rural area on a country road. The noisest thing is the traffic in the front part of the house. There is a stream behind the house and it attracts lots of birds. So I put my bird feeder right up in front of my kitchen window. Right under the eve of the roof, keeps the seeds nice 'n dry. They never get wet when it rains. I've had many kinds of birds, even some that are way too big to perch on the feeder. lol So when the weather is nice, I put out a dish on the grass for the big birdies. My neighbor next door is always building something, or tinkering, through out the day. But our properties are distant and he's quiet once the sun goes down.

I don't know how it works in the UK, but in the USA there is a clause in your lease that is called "Quiet enjoyment". This clause allows you to be able to have a reasonable amount of quiet and if there are people who abuse it, they will be held accountable and that clause will enable you break your lease if the neighbors are intollerable. Does your area have a noise curfew? If it does, get a copy of it and post it on their door. They don't have to know who posted it as long as it gets the message across. If you are on nice terms with them, ask them to hold it down. If worse comes to worse, buy them some area rugs. The last resort is to move.

That is the usual goings on of apartment life.
I can't count the number of times I've heard my next door and upstairs neighbors banging around at night.
I just learned to deal with it.
If you don't want to hear upstairs noise, either get a top level floor or find a home to rent.
Apartment noise is expected.
Earplugs, a fan, they help block out the noise.

Leave another note on the door. Be clever. Something like "most people keep their sex life private - you're including your neighbors, but we're really not interested-tone it down". If that doesn't work, don't you have a property manager that can intervene? If not, I would suggest ear plugs. Good luck!

tell them you a going to call the cops because you think they are running a....call girl house, because of the bed and the other loud noises. if that don't work then tell the landlord that you are not the only tenant that's bothered by the noise and you want to end your lease early because of the neighbors.

Get ahold of your landlord and see if he can have a talk with them! You are a paying tenant and deserve your peace and quiet- ecpecially in the middle of the night!!!! They are obviously ignoring your note and have NO respect for you!!

Noisy neighbors? Why don't you just go to your neighbors and tell them.

sometimes in this life we have to speak to people in their own language...
your dropping off the letter (was in your language)...didnt do any good.
so, now you have to speak to your neighbors in their language...when its time for you to get up in the morning....make as much noise as you possibly make..crank the stereo, maybe slam doors make a big scene every am...because that will speak to them in their language...and, they will get the message.
best wishes
