A Happy Independence Day to you, Aunt Caroline.
My family has a rather odd way of celebrating, and half of it's already over, even though it's not yet 2 pm here.
Our community celebrates Jolly July 3rd, so last evening my two youngest sons (15 and 12) and I attended a concert and festivities at the local university's football stadium. There's food and fun for everyone, and last evening was so beautiful about 5000 people showed up. There are only 6000 year-round residents here, so that's saying a lot.
Around 9:30 the fireworks started, and they lasted until shortly after 10. At that point, the boys and I came home and had our own celebration. We light the campfire, and while it's getting ready we do our own fireworks. Most of them are legal, but the neighbors always contribute Roman candles and bottle rockets.
After the fireworks, it's time to put the food on. We cook in a burn ring with wood, so we just wrap corn and potatoes in foil and bury them in the fire. The hot dogs and marshmallows (gotta have those S'mores!) we roast on sticks.
After the meal, which takes place around 1 am, we get a huge bonfire burning and sit out visiting half the night. We didn't make it in until 4:45 a.m, which is about the normal time.
Now we are getting ready to go to my mother's for a cookout and more fireworks, and when we come home tonight we'll finish up the few we didn't use last night and then gratefully fall into bed and sleep tomorrow away. At that point, we will have earned it.
*Edit: I am so rude, please forgive me for not asking. How do you and your family celebrate?

I stay in a small city (inhabitants 200) and each 4th of July the finished city comes out. we start up approximately 10 a.m. with parades, cake walks, bands play music, human beings dance, an excellent sort of relaxing issues are going on. The community fire branch has an excellent grill set up and makes brisket and warm canines for each individual. the various church homes oftentimes have activities coated up for her babies. while starts to get dark the actual relaxing shows that it fairly is purely approximately time for the fireworks show. the fire branch places on the show. The show final approximately 40 5 minutes. on the tip of the show all and sundry is going domicile drained and exahusted yet with a sence of actual satisfaction.

My mother is coming out. I am making a huge thing of potato salad, the hubby is grilling chicken and spicy sausage. I have some blueberries and strawberries and whipped cream for a red white and blue dessert :)
We'll have a nice quiet day here with the kids and go down to the beach to watch the fireworks tonight.

I'm not, because I do not live in the USA.
However, I live in Canada, & we just celebrated our own national holiday(Canada Day, formerly known as Dominion Day)on the 1st of July, & I celebrated by going to Ottawa(the capital of Canada)to visit my brother's family, & we went down to the Parliament Buildings for the day.

I just got done making some new changes to my web-site and then thought I'd check out answers to see what was going on.
I pray that all will pause to think of our servicemen and women, whether they agree with this war or not.
God Bless All.

Slept late--went behind our house in the forest and picked blackberries--get them when you can--wild animals eat them too. Had lunch--tonight--big feast--steak--then watch fireworks on tv. Could climb the mountain and watch the fireworks for miles--been there and done that.
