They are still helping me pay for school so I am still tied to them financially. It seems simple to say get a job. However I already have one that doesnt pay enough and since I have to deal with bipolar crap on top of that, things just add up. What would be the best thing to do? They keep calling and I feel like **** whenever I talk to them. Something tells me the way Im wording the question im not going to like the answers. Soooo many people stand by their families and well I tried its just they never took the time to know me. My emotions meant nothing I had to constantly make them feel better. ok well just let me know what you think or if you have any experience with this. Thank u.

yea its kinda a bad thing when you get around your fam and you get suicidal. I dont ask for that to happen but it feels that uncomfortable being around them and I start to hate myself. I just dont get it.

Im planning to do so cuz , although all my life i've tried to fulfill their wishes and be at their service they've always made me feel incompetent and down. if those are your reasons as well, do it without fear, some families are better to be left behind cuz they've made enough damages to your soul till now.

There are families that are toxic enough that there is no choice but to cut them off, but I can't tell from your question whether yours falls into this category. What you really have to think long and hard about is how you will feel thirty or forty years from now about losing all contact with them. Many of us go through periods where we aren't very happy with our families, but we usually end up reconciling and whatever was wrong passes. If you want to try, you could always see if they would participate in family therapy. They probably are confused about your illness, maybe a little frightened by it, and would benefit from knowing how you feel and how they can best help you. Don't give up too soon. It's still early.

If you are bipolar are you seeing a counselor and are you on medication? That is the most important thing to help you deal with your family and life in general.
That said, just because we are born into a family does not mean they are going to be good to us. We need to be realistic; do they mean us harm, are they selfish, are they controlling and manipulative? If yes, then distance is best. I only recommend total cut off when people are dangerous. You need to learn how to deal with people that are not valuing you. It's called communication and a good counselor will help you with that. There are lots of books regarding communication too, one I can recommend is "Messages", an older book I had in college that was fantastic for understanding how to cope with people and verbally deal with them.

Kat, I doubt you have any idea how hard it is for your family to be around you. It is a symptom of bipolar to be very self-centered.
You might be doing your family the biggest favor ever by cutting them off. Before you do take a look and the "street people" in your city or neighbor. Statistically over 1/4th of them are bipolar. They have been cut off from their loved ones.
You have to deal the the bipolar crap! Well they don't have to and they are still there for you. You need to appreciate them from the bottom of your heart.
Your family will probably love you unconditionally but future employeers will not and finding and keeping a good paying job as a bipolar can be difficult to impossible. So rethink your idea of breaking family ties.

See bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal thoughts, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on pages 5, and 2. Practise daily, and when needed, one of the relaxation techniques on page 2. There are many ways to cut down, and make savings: see your local library: household tips. Later, only see them at a neutral venue, like a restaurant.

I do not have contact with my family and I feel Great. They are the mental health patients! Not me. I do not have contact with my husband's family, they are in the same classification. You need to get on your own as soon as possible OR you will become very sick all over, from Head to Toes. Some people are Very Toxic.

Are you Bipolar?
Your family may not be all that or they may even be detrimental to your mental health. However, it is better for your mental health that you come to some kind of peace with them.

Get this! Life is no freebie. As long as you keep expecting and taking their money you owe something in return. They give you money to go to school because they love you. You turn around and trash your parents over the Internet. What an ungrateful little witch you are.
