Buy a legal copy! As far as I know there are NO LEGITIMATE downloads for Vista except from MS

If you got it somewhere else I would contact them and have them fix the issue.
If you got it from Microsoft then just give them a call they will correct it for you.

Register it over the phone.

When given the option to register choose register later. Then once you have the computer running you will see the register option on the task bar to the right. If you already haven't gotten 50 pop ups to register it. It will ask you how you would like to register your copy of Windows choose by telephone.

Then call the Toll Free number speak to someone in Bangladesh and they will give you an automated key code that is one time only usable. Pretty easy process.

After rereading your post... Is this a pirated copy?? If so just tell the person that you speak to that you formated your hard drive and that you are reinstalling it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

And that really sux if you did pirate it go buy a legitimate copy somewhere just so you know Vista Basic is the worst version you can get. Not to say I've never downloaded software before.

Sorry but you will have to pay like i did £87.99 from argos or use a credit card and pay £69.99 online to dixon's for a new windows vista installation disc as that is the only way you can obtain a new product key for vista

yea i paid £150 for vista home premium upgrade for the main PC downstairs, but it wouldnt work with the old PC afterwards as it was on XP. I installed vista onto the server PC (which we never use), and it wouldnt have it so i went to PC world and ripped a product key label off a display computer. worked fine for the server, and did the same for the old laptop, which sadly passed away soon after that.

Unlike previous windows versions- Win-Vista is very strict. One product key will not work with the other. I purchased one and I only wanted to transfer from one of my PC into other, for this I had to call Microsoft Customer care. Purchasing a new product key will solve your problem.

you need to go to device manager ,... scroll down to activate ....then activate online ....then it goes through the Microsoft network registration then it will say that this product is already activated,....then click on phone activation.... select country then go next and you will be given a toll free UK phone number....phone the number and on your computer screen you will have a six digit number in 9 blocks then with the touchpad on your phone follow the instructions as told....when it gets to the eighth block it will put you through to a Microsoft customer representative. tell the representative that you wish to re-activate Windows Vista then follow the instructions they give you and they will give you a new activation number.....good luck my partner did this with his Windows on Sunday and he was successful.
