Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

If XP is already activated then this will not be there.

Or you could go to http://www.windows.update.com
and check for updates and it will tell you there the status of your Windows XP if it is activated yet.

If it doesn't remind you to activated you're good to go. It'll do so for 30 days. Doesn't mean it's a legit copy though. Make sure you can validate it through the Windows Genuine Validation tool so you can download all updates necessary.

Go to windows website www.windows.com and try to download a small utility (add ons). Your computer goes through a genuine checkup which Microsoft will tell you your windows status.
