I have two apartments to pick from. the first one is on the second story, has a lot of windows, a new stove, table and chairs, a tv with stand. and is really cute, but it doesnt have air conditioning. it only has a living room and a kitchen. but the living room is small. and a small closet. however, you can have fans, and utilities are included, so i wouldnt have to worry about the electric bill. the second one is ground level, has one window, furnished with table and chairs, an air conditioner, has a bigger living room(both unfortunatley have just two main rooms, but they are efficiency apts.) with enough space and a big closet. however, its darker since it only has one window. utilities are also included. im having a hard time deciding. but what i mainly like about the first one is the way it looks. however its a little small. the second one is larger, but doesnt look as good. i will be living by myself though.

thats the problem. the dark one feels better to me, but just because my parents always kept their place dark. that makes it feel comfortable to me. i really do like a lot of light though. but the first one doesnt have that homie feel.

You have to look at you way of living. Are you a party animal? Is looking out the window important to you? Do you like well lit places or do you like it dark and cozy? Are all those steps gonna bother you in time? Think about it. You will be carrying groceries and things up the steps. Do you like to drink? If so are the steps gonna be too hard to climb when you get back home? Do you have a lot of furniture that you will need a place for? If you do have company, how many people would you say would come over on an average ? Are any of your friends or family handicapped in any way that the upstairs would be a problem? Will you have pets? Will they need windows to look out? Will it be a hardship to get them up and down the steps? Being second story means more heat cause you are higher up. Do you need an air conditioner or are you happy with fans. You have to make a list of things that are pros and cons. I know it sounds stupid but it works. If you are truly honest with yourself then it will work. Personally I stick with the downstairs apts. I don't like steps, I have a bad ankle and a bad knee. I always had pets. And groceries are the worst. How many trips do you make up and down the steps with groceries? And laundry. There's another one. I hate lugging stuff up and down the steps. As far as no windows? If the tightness of no air doesn't bother you then you could always buy flourescent lights. They light extremly well and aren't that costly on the bill either. Personally I think I would find at least one more apt. I like windows but hate steps. But that's me. You need to go with your style.

If you are a single girl, choose the second story apartment. You will feel safer, plus it sounds like it is brighter and cheerier... Having enough room is more critical than AC. If the landlord is paying utilities, get a window AC unit.... Remember to lock your door and just because someone knocks on your door doesn't mean you have to open it... Good Luck.

The first one sounds great if you can live without the air conditioning. It sounds bright and airy with all the windows. and living alone, I've always felt safer on the second floor. Maybe you could get one of those small window unit air conditioners.

Go with the second-floor unit. It won't be hot all year long. Ground floor apartments are more likely targets for break-ins.

You will enjoy living on the second floor more if you like light and a view.

Drawback is you will be carrying groceries up the stairs and trash down the stairs.

I would take the first one. It's nice to have a lot of windows and you can keep them open on the second floor. The second apt. will always be dark.

Choose the one that feels most like home to you. I'm serious. One immediately "feels" better to you. Take that one.
