It is a silver band with a small diamond. We tried the soap, got him to swim, checked with the gold smith shop for advice but still no solution in removing it.

If you don't want to cut the ring and the oil or soap isn't working, you can wrap the finger across the knuckle with waxed dental floss and thread it throught the ring (with no skin showing between the strands of floss), then pull the end of the dental floss to peel the ring off.
DO NOT leave this on for any length of time, just wrap it and remove the ring immediately. If this doesn't work, take him to the ER or to a local fire station to get he ring cut off. You can always get the ring fixed.

My dad used to be a jeweler so here is the answer. It wont come off because you knuckle has swollen up after putting it on. Try to relax and soak you hand in cold water to reduce the swelling. Then pour olive oil on your finger and ring. pull it off using a twisting/rocking motion to work the skin underneath the metal. You may have to strategically bend the ring over tough spots if you have arthritis knuckles or bone growths. Yes the jeweller can cut it off BUT it is not the same as a resizing cut and may cost extra to repair the removal cut. A resizing cut can only be done properly when it is off the finger. Remember if you were able to put the ring on, it WILL come off with the right persuasion and without cutting. WARNING! do not get the ring re-sized until your hand has returned to normal, usually 2 to 3 days or they will probably make it too big. Resizing cost is based on how much gold is added to the ring and the labor involved. They will generally re-bend it into round for free and give it a good chemical cleaning as well. best of luck to you

It went on so it has to come off right?
If it's swollen from trying you need ice to take down the swelling first. Then you wanna take a slippery substance, such as cooking oil, KYJelly, or butter.
Take the ring and slowly pull and twist at the same time. Keep the finger straight, by laying in on the table. Just keep turning the ring and gently pulling.
Good Luck

Olive oil works great for getting rings off. If his finger is starting to get swollen, him him raise his arm over his head for a while to make it hard for the blood to flow and massage the oil on to his finger and see if the ring comes off that way. If you cant get it off after all these sugestions you might have to cut it off. Good luck

1] try cooking oil - make sure drains etc. are covered so ring doesn't go down!
2] ice his hand [ not the ring ] while he holds it up in air for 20 min, then try again
3] call the non-emergency dept. number, and ask for advice
[ you would not believe some of the things they remove! ]
4] if all else fails, go to ER.

use baby oil. that might work and it wont ruin the ring ice will work too sounds like the hand might be swollen but try the oil first if that fails try the ice. you can also try baby powder. since the ring is silver the jeweler can't remove it without cutting it and than he can't put it back together.

You could try cooking oil and 'unscrew' the ring.

Or

Wind some thread round the finger above the ring and slide the ring over it.

Good luck

according to me...the best way is massage oil...any kind of oil...best will be some kind of body oil...every couple of hours a day and try to slide the ring down but not too hard as it may cause a lot of pain to him...!! but i guess this will not only help to get the ring slide down but also prevent from the blood getting clogged there and causing much pain to him...Good Luck!!

You should try butter, grease or anything greasy for that matter. If you can't find a solution you might just have to get it cut off and re-sized.

Use KY jelly & if that doesn't work, you may have to go to the emergency room and they have a device to cut the ring off. Good luck!
