Texas state sales tax is 6.25% ($625 sales tax). However, Texas also allows cities, counties, transit authorities and special purpose districts to impose additional taxes. So, depending on where you live in Texas, the sales tax could be as high as $825.

The registration would be $40.80 for cars model year $2001 and older, $50.80 for '02 - '04 models, and $58.80 for '05 and newer models. Also, Texas allows local governments to collect from $5 to $11.50 for local fees. Pickup trucks can cost up to an additional $64.90 to register.
