I don't know about letting blacks in, but I do know the polygamy answer,

The Utah territory had to outlaw polygamy before Utah was allowed to join the union.

It was not actually the Mormon Church that rejected it at that time, although they officially reject it now.

If African American are willing to ignore the fact about the war in heaven story and the fact that cain's Mark is still black skin in the mormons KJV and that Ham's wife is still black and that the laminite's Mark was also Dark skin and the mormons are still sexist and that in their Journal of discourses it still says that God was marrried to the virgin Mary and when the Holy Ghost came over her they consimated the married and nine months later out pops Jesus, whats your problem?

We have always had black members in our church. They did not hold the priesthood until 1978. But they've always been members.

God excused us from plural marriage at the turn of the 20th century, because otherwise, the church would have pretty much ceased to exist.

Aside from being spiritually, morally and legally wrong, what's the point?

Why dredge up our horrid and insipid past that we've never been compelled to comment on or even apologize for?

We just CHANGED, dammit! Now leave us alone, or I'll sic the missionaries on you!

Damn Gentile trounblemaker!

I don't really know....but I imagine it's like when Catholics allowed Black people to sit where they wanted in church....and letting men who's parents weren't married become priests. At one time neither of these things were allowed.

It's progression of society's values...even in religions.....thank goodness.
