1) Secure the borders.
2) Simultaneously increase efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens. Continue those efforts as long as it takes.

5) Increase penalties to employers of illegal aliens and citizens who harbor them.
6) Make agricultural industry PROVE they cannot hire Americans at a DECENT wage. Then after a thorough study is done, base the number of temporary worker permits on the results. Require them to pay temporary workers a DECENT wage as well, removing the incentive to hire non-citizens. Do not allow temporary workers to overstay. Make it the responsibility of the employers to return them to their home nation. Penalize them if they fail to do so.

Only way immigration gonna slow from Mexico is economic growth of Mexico gotta exceeded Americas for the next 25 years. We tried deportation in the 1950s and the economy sufferend a recession because of that. We should reform are tax system before we touch immigration because a tax system based on cosumption will capture more tax dollars from people that are sneaking in and would help the burden on the local communites that deal with the issuses. Labor mobility is gonna increase with golbalization, and Americans think that shutting down and deporting people, and stopping will help the economy you are in lala land. Once we go back to reactionary type economic policy we will have deep recession as a result. The way to solve immigration as stated before grow the Mexican economy at a higher rate than the Untied States. Once the wage ration is 3 to 1 the immigration will slow dramatically because it not worth the pain and time to head north just for marginally better standard of living. Mexicans immigrating are the ones right in the center of the country not the northern half of Mexico.

in a free market society the way to deal with this situation is simple. in the morning simply drive out to the nearest farm and apply for a job. tell the farmer/foreman you will work for less and do a better job; he'd be a fool to pass up such an opportunity. show us the way. now round up a few million american citizens to do the same and, voila, problem solved. no job opportunities and the migrants turn around and go home.

solve two problems at once. instead of buying your child an Ipod, a cell phone, a car, or an expensive wardrobe, have them buy their own by working in the fields this summer.

First of all pack them all up and ship them back to their country for a huge rally against their government, quit leaching off us here and trying to change our laws. Also borders will never be completely closed because Bush and Co, aka the social elitists have put plans into action to enact the North American Union (NAU)

Same thing I've been saying over and over again. Keep calling, e-mailing, faxing (government officials), and most importantly, keep your neighbors and relatives up-to-date on the situation.

The legal citizens cannot do anything unless they are informed. Watch the race for the President. There aren't many good candidates out there. We need someone with balls who will step up and do what the people want. Enforce our laws. Get rid of the illegal slime.

The best way is to open up more legal options so that people (immigrants, employers) are not forced to resort to underground solutions. I recommend increasing immigration quotas to reasonable levels, hiring more staff so that the wait is not so long, offering a path to legality for the undocumented already here, and a viable guestworker program.

Well, the republicans were in charge the last 6 years of every branch of government from the senate, to the house, and the president and they did NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to stop or slow down illegals coming into this country. Now that they are here, it's stupid to think the day will come when someone will just round them up and take them back. All those who voted the repubs into office the past few years now have to lay in the bed they made when it comes to illegals.

There is no doubt that we need better immigration laws for those wishing to become Americans legally.

The problem with the laws that our current government is trying to force upon us would allow amnesty plus benefits to the illegals - not even screening them for criminal activity.

Before we can offer a better path for legal immigration, we need to clean up our country from the current illegal invaders.

The number one priority has to be to secure our borders to prevent the daily invasion of illegals who are pouring across our southern border.

Then we need to start enforcing our laws - start with the big companies and fine them for every illegal - this will give the government funds to work with for the continued clean up - not from taxpayers. We need to scrutinize every aspect of the illegals' lives - from renting in the US illegally, providing services that go untaxed like lawn, cleaning, nanny services, etc. We need to sit in on city meetings and make sure that our laws are being enforced.

If the local police force is not enforcing the law, then the city council needs to know that the laws are not being enforced. Same thing with the sheriff's department. It's not just the big companies who are to blame for this problem. It is the homeowner who is hiring illegals for lawn service, illegally renting to them, supporting their restaurants and businesses. Everyone can have a part in cleaning up our country from these invaders.

My solution to these illegal aliens is that if they deport themselves before ICE comes to get them, then they can get in line to become citizens behind the other legal immigrants waiting to enter legally. No one will be the wiser that they were even here in the first place. This is self deportation to do it the right way.

If ICE has to come and get them, they will be charged with all kinds of crimes like Identity theft, tax evasion, driving while uninsured, etc. (if ICE and Homeland Security do their jobs) - and should never, ever be allowed citizenship. This is a fair way of doing business in the USA and is fair to legal immigrants.

Only after we have cleaned up our country from the illegal invaders should we even consider a change to our immigration laws that allow more to come in.

The law that needs to be clarified is the anchor baby law to make known that anchor babies are not legal citizens - they are just as illegal as their mother who gave birth to them. They should be deported together - never separated. Why should the Amercan tax dollars have to pay for them giving birth? This isn't their country and the US Constitution was not written for them.

First, build a double fence at the southern border. Station guards at intervals. Once the border is secured, conduct raids on employers who hire illegal immigrants. When the employers start getting raided and fined, they will stop hiring illegals. If the illegals can't get jobs they will self-deport.
