My family crest is the Felton Family. It has 2 white lions wearing crowns on the shield. What does this mean?

Caution:there are coat of arms (misnomer family crest) peddlers on the internet.
See below link:

Not everyone with the same surname goes back to the same root. The vague family history that is shown with the coat of arms might be yours and might not. Do you know if you had a direct ancestor that was granted a coat of arms? Also, there might be several for the name Felton, but the companies that peddle them only will have the one and that is all they need to sell them to people who do not understand how they were granted and are suppose to be used.

People did not have surnames until the 13th century in England.

There was a man named John that had 5 sons, Henry, George, Sam, Robert, Joseph.

Henry was known as Henry son of John and if he could write that is how he signed his name. He became Henry Johnson but a lot of fellas named John had sons that became Johnson.

George was a blacksmith and he became George Smith. There were a lot of people with occupations like blacksmith, tinsmith, goldsmith etc that became Smith

Sam lived on a hill and he became Sam Hill, but other guys that lived on a hill took the surname Hill.

Robert lived in a field close to a town and he became Robert Felton ("ton" means town in English names) fel derives from "field). However he wasn't the only person lving in a field close to a town that became Felton.

Joseph was short and he became known as Joseph Short but there were other short guys who took the name Short.

You see there are 5 sons of the same father that took different surnames but other people took those different surnames also who were not necessarily related.

Genealogy is about researching dead ancestors. There are no shortcuts like "meanings of names" or buying a doodad to hang on a wall representing someone else's device, or someone's fantasy device because it's the same surname as yours.

If you were the firstborn son of the firstborn son of the firstborn son down the line of whoever the nobleman was who was originally awarded the right to bear arms you would know it and not be on a yahoo question board asking what that meant - you would know by birthright of noble inheritance.

So to answer your specific question, you've been hornswoggled and I hope you didn't give anyone any money.

The probable meaning is Peace (white) through strength (lion). This would be consistent with the shield.

My family crest is a blond woman holding up a severed head. It means my mom can beat up your dad. ;-)
