We just recently moved from a cold, dry state to a humid, hot state. I have been told that she has what is commonly called a hot spot. I have given her baths and put bag balm on the spot, she is not itching it any more however it has gotten a little more swollen. I have looked on the net to find information on hot spots and all I have found is saying to give them baths regularly (which I have done every two days) Any other suggestions would be wonderful?!

Sorry, I should have clarified the bath part, it is a washcloth bath meaning I am only cleaning the spot where she has lost the hair. And then I am re applying the bag balm.

Rotties take the heat harder because of their color. Black absorbs the heat. Invest in a marble floor if you can afford it. DOgs cool themselves from bottom up. Your rottie will prefer lying down on the cold slab instead of a bed. A spritzer, water spray will cool him down too. Install a pond? An airconditioner?
Put a wet towel on the floor, see if she will prefer to lie on it.
She is just too hot !.
Make sure she is not dehydrated. Put lots of water for drinking, and dont leave her in the sun , make sure she has shade and a breeze.

Next to last resort. Buy an airconditioner. Both humans and dog will be happier.
Last resort. Move back to the northern cooler state. LOL

Do not give your dog a bath regularly. It strips the coat of its natural oils and in the process irritates the skin, making them scratch more and leaving the more susceptible to hot spots.

You need to take her to the vets and get treatment for the hot spot. They get worse before they get better.

Relief spray sold at the vet or store. Also,,too much heat in the house irritates this. Also try giving the dog doggie vitamin every day.

How about you vistit the vet? Maybe the vet will give him/her a medicated cream that'll stop the swelling. Hope this helps.
