I agree with your sentiment, but I can understand why many of the other posters took offense. The bible worshipers don't intentionally fabricate, or know their beliefs are wrong. They are sincere in their beliefs and believe to their very soul that they are true.
Part of the problem lies in their adopting a mindset that if something is ancient and sacred, it MUST be true. This is the logical fallacy of "Appealing to Tradition".
It is where a "thesis is deemed correct on the basis that it has a long standing tradition behind it. Essentially: 'This is right because we've always done it this way.' This argument makes basically two assumptions: The old way of thinking was proven correct when introduced. This might be actually false: the tradition might be entirely based on incorrect grounds. The reasons to prove the old way of thinking in the past are still valid today. If circumstances have changed, this may be false. Also, the argument takes for granted that status quo is desired, which may or may not be correct."
(The opposite of this is the "Appeal to Novelty" - because something is new, it is good.)
A good example of what has been proven "fabricated" is the Shroud of Turin. (See link below). Yet many bible worshipers continue to believe anyway. The burning desire to WANT to believe should not be underestimated.
Faith, fanatic faith, once wedded fast
To some dear falsehood, hugs it to the last.

Reason is God's crowning gift to man.

By all means let’s be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.

Keep in mind that creationists base their beliefs on writings that are thousands of years old and were "perfect" when first written. To them, old writings by scientists are just are useful for their arguments as new writings since their source is far older.
And of course, since their source was valid the first time and all other writings about it are commentaries on it, not corrections, how can they imagine that science ever changes or corrects previous work.
And yes, some people are outright frauds. The Discovery Institute and William Dembski know they are lying, distorting and fabricating in order to prove their point. Kevin Hovind has been convicted of tax fraud and that is just one of the frauds he has perpetrated.
On the other hand, you have some sincere but confused people. I think Dr. Michael Behe falls in this category - although it is hard to say. He seems very sincere, yet at the same time it seems hard that a tenured professor with a chemistry background could be as ignorant at he is.

It is impossible to prove something that can not be tested, so the best way to keep the myth alive is to distort it and use words and fear to push the myth. Deception has worked a long time and when one item has made the creationist look silly they start a new line of hollow words saying these words mean something. Words do not prove anything and can be biased at anytime. Creationist should be asked to show real proof or quit stopping the world's quest for scientific knowledge

Things that are old aren't relevant today? I beg to differ. Humanity puts an awful lot of trust into the works of Sophocles and Homer etc. Why are these not as relevant and applicable?

I'm wondering if you're not simply parroting what you've been told as you don't supply an actual examples. Have you actually checked these out for yourself?

Not sure where you are coming from or where you are going with this, but if it is in the Bible it is as relevant today as it was when it was written.

Why didn't you cite any examples? It's easy to accuse someone without proof.
