Dealing with family members who have had or who have cancer can be a hard thing because there is very little that you can do in order to help them, but you can keep their morale and spirit up by supporting them. My aunt recently died from cancer which started in her bladder then went to the brain, then following throughout her whole body. My grandma and dad both have squamous cell carcinoma which is a skin cancer, my uncle had prostate cancer, my cousin died from cancer, and my mom was believed to have ovarian cancer, but she doesn't. I have learned that if you support them even when they lose all hope, you will fulfill them with your hope and spirit giving them the impetus to move forward and fight the disease.

Well-I currently have breast cancer. I can tell you what I wish I had. People/family who would call me. Ask me how I am. Listen and not keep telling me I will be fine. Hear my concerns and thoughts and fears and be realistic with me. Not pretend all will be well-this separates me from them.

Ask me what is most on my mind right now. I can tell you it is chemotherapy-and whether I will do it or not.

Call me and ask what you can do for me.

Sigh. Everyone is trying. But if I hear how they know I will be just fine one more time I am going to scream. Let's get down to the real issues at hand. What should I do?

I had testicular cancer that spread to my kidneys when I was in my twenties. Not a very pleasant time in my life, but with the help of my wife and the rest of my family I am 100% healthy, although minus a kidney and a few other 'parts'.
