Hello ladies,

I've recently joined a gym in an effort to be healthier and in better shape. During my personal training session, they measured my body at 178lbs, 6'0", 8% body fat (seems too low to me), and set my target weight at 190lbs.

I've always heard from women that TOO muscular is unattractive. So how muscular should i go and which muscles should i focus on? Where do i need the most work? And should i go to 190lbs or go higher?

My picture is here: http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/8/7/4/f_chestm_22a3678.jpg

Thanks!

It really depends on the type of woman. Several of my friends prefer the skinny type, while others are all for the Hollywood muscle look. As it is, I don't find you too muscular -- and I don't think many women will find that excessive -- and it might be a good medium point or something. But it really depends on the chick.

Even though I'm not a lady, I am a Personal Fitness Trainer, and have some idea of what ladies look for in men. The general idea is to be lean and tightly muscled -- this look is like that of a fit swimmer or gymnast, maybe even a sprinter, not a power lifter or bodybuilder. Think compact, not bloated. Efficient, not heavy.

Your bodyfat test result is wrong -- I've done more of these tests tests than I can count and can guess within good range that you're around 12-16% bodyfat (can't see the legs).

DO be careful -- some gyms will give you false and skewed figures and manipulate the numbers -- and your emotions -- to keep you as a long-term client. It DOES happen -- it's a business like any other. You're not even remotely fat, so watch out for "goal" weights -- they're usually only established for the overweight ones. Your goal weight change is minor, not dozens of pounds.

You'd do well to focus on those Pecs, but not too much.
Same with Biceps/Triceps.
Same with Legs.
And Shoulders.
And some fat loss to define you all over, but mostly in the abs.

You're starting out in great proportion, and women love that and respond to it, so do your best to keep it. Examine the link below and use it, because the "Greek Ideal" applies to thin, medium and huge men all the same way. Proportion is proportion, and while some gym rats can show you their guns, they wear long pants to hide those legs, lol. The eye knows what it sees.

Roughly, for tape measurements:

Neck= A
Thigh=B
Biceps & Calf should be the same as A
Waist should be 2 x A
Chest should be 2 x B

Pro bodybuilders (the winners) and fashion models, while of totally different "sizes", often fall within this proportional ideal, and the eye sees it and knows it.

Read that link and see how you measure up, and adjust accordingly, because that ideal also happens to be the ideal that represents balance, and balance = health. You can fine-tune your workouts to get you there.

Good Luck... :)

It's important to do work everywhere so you don't look weird and imbalanced or get posture issues. Some guys just do their chest and arms and have scrawny little legs - or they get hunched over from weak back muscles and strong chest muscles. You are not "too muscular" right now. That usually just applies to people who are on steroids and have veins popping out of their body. It's kinda gross. As a girl, it's hard to even be with them sexually because it feels like a rocky mountain is on you and you can't breathe or move (sorry - personal experience with 1 musclehead guy...wasn't that great). If you can get to 190, by all means - do it... It's tough for many people do to genetic limitations to put on that much muscle very fast. So, don't get frustrated if it takes several months. You have to eat a lot of protein, etc... It looks like you are in shape now anyway which is the best place to start. You can only improve. Good luck.

You don't have to worry about being too muscular. Post another pic and ask when you have some muscle...

bf looks closer to 12-14%. I would not worry about what the masses think, they are quit fickle in that aspect. train and diet to achieve the physique that you desire.
