Please answer with what is wrong with open sex as oppose to shooting down every religion. In our western capitalist society I believe sexual pictures videos etc are used all the time to sell things. Put a sexy girl in a beer commercial and it will sell. Our brains seem to buy if it relates to sex.

Well, since I'm coming from a medical background, let me tell you what I have seen. I used to work in an OB/Gyn office, before my kids came along. I'm a nurse practitioner, so I pretty much did everything the doctors did. I had my own patients, and ran my own hours and all that.

Anyway, I saw many girls come in with diseases. They had only had one partner, or so I was told, but they still were getting diseases from just one partner.

There were many girls/women that came in pregnant that had used birth control. No form of birth control, except abstinence, is 100% effective. Not even vasectomy or tubal ligation is 100% all of the time.

I have seen women who have caught disease because their husbands/significant other cheated on them.

I have seen women/girls raped by people they trusted, or thought they could trust, and also by strangers.

I have been in a few psych wards where they have taken rapists or people addicted to sex. They say it all started with porn, or something printed or video of sexual things.

Sex is meant to be special, between a man and a woman who are married. There are way too many children brought into this world that don't have the support of both a mom and a dad.

Birth is a good thing, don't get me wrong. If used correctly, it can be a great thing for people in a loving, committed relationship that don't want children yet, or want to prevent any more children at the moment. Just because it's easy to get doesn't mean that sex should be OK, or tolerated for everyone.

Because religion is concerend with matters of the spirit, anything material is an impediment to it's growth. Material things and their adoration/accumulation distract people from activity that promotes good deeds and works which are the means of spiritual growth. The first material object we encounter in this life is our own bodies. Adoration of it is a distraction from those sprirtual matters (this is basic hinduism/buddhism as I understand it). As most human beings enjoy the sex they make with their bodies more than doing anything else (a truism as old as time apparently), sex is either regulated or taboo between unmarried couples. It probably isn't so much sex per se as it is the LUST that initiates it that religion finds objectionable. The rules against homosexuality are simply a product of the times they were written and the people that wrote those rules. If God in the Bible is the Creator he would not have created entities that have no function - even Satan has a function (though in modern religious western culture that purpose is often forgotten). In other cultures, homosexuals were found a place for their unusual temperament.

Sure.. we are tempted and drawn to sex like in the beer commercials.

Reproduction is not the only important reason that unmarried sex is taught against... God, our Creator knows that having sexual intimacy is meant to be within marriage within a lifelong commitment. Sex is a deep bonding between two people. It is not meant to be our indiscriminate pleasure because when we do that we connect with someone with our hearts, minds and spirits - and done enough times without commitment we are deeply hurt , especially women.
As a Christian I believe God has given sex as a precious gift for a married couple. God gives freedom to a married couple. If they agree on things that aren't wierd they are free to be as they want - and God blesses that. My wife and I waited three years for sex before we were married. It was very difficult. But God blesses it like the world does not know. I now have no desire for anyone else and we never tire of each other. Isn't that what we really want? But we follow ourselves and self-indulgence and not God.
And now we are so desensitized to it being ok that it is pretty much lost, and it is one of God's greatest gifts.

The Church teaches that sex should be in marriage and be: free; total; faithful; & open to childreen. This will give you intamacy with each other and with God.

So your saying you accept being a slave to your sexual desires and that you don't want to find intamacy? God did give free will to us to make such choices. He also sent Jesus to "Free" us from our desires to serve others selfishly.

Sure we buy into sex; but that doesn't make it dignifying to the human soul. You would drink beer regardless of the advertising right? Should we also use naked men and women to sell baby-carriages?

How about naked men to sell enema packages or naked women to sell "Depends" ... that will sell more won't it? Or would it make grown men & women who are past their sexual prime fall into depression? These people who buy based off sexual images have enslaved themselves. When they don't have the "Fantasy" that's sold with the product, too often, this causes idenity crisis and we get psychological disorders like "Pedifila".

God created sex. It was created in the context of a monogamous, committed, exclusive, and married relationship.
These are the parameters that God set up for sex (It's all in Genesis). When sex comes into play outside of this context it is displeasing to God.
What's wrong with open sex is that it is being done outside of the parameters that God created and intended to be kept.

Many of the old "pagan" religions and some strains of neo-paganism encourage(d) sex between uncommitted people. But I believe they all honor(ed) incest taboos, although the details of those differ(ed).

Moreover, no birth control method is 100% effective.

Supposedly, sexy beer girls are why we western women are "oppressed" and they are our icon...so we all are whores. That's why the radical Muslims want to kill us all. We have to find a way to scramble the signals to our TV programs so they can't be accessed in the Middle East. Maybe they will stop blowing us up.

Sex based on expressing and sharing love in a relationship is good and healthy.

Sex based only on physical gratification for one's self is not good.

One if based on joy and love; the other is based on lust and ego.

Sex is normal, natural, and fun.

That kind of intimacy should be used with caution but embraced as necessary and wonderful.
