Recently my fiancee has re-taken an interest in joining the military. Which concerns me a lot. I'm worried that he may get deployed and something may happen to him when our lives are just beginning together. Since he knew how I felt about this he's looking into the ROTC program so he can finish college and become a second lieutenant. I guess my question is how great are the chances of deployment for someone like this. I know that it depends on what field he chooses to go into, but since he will be a higher rank, he shouldn't really be in the fighting itself right? I really don't want him to join at all, but I don't want to make him miserable so I guess we compromised on this ROTC program...should I still be worried?

The chances are very high. But like you said it also depends on the career field he goes into. Sometimes they get put in career fields where the job can't even be done in a field environment and he'll wind up going on missions anyway.

Rank has nothing to do with it, if he's in a unit that has to go on the missions then until he's higher ranking (like Captain) he will have to go on the missions, too.

It's ok to be scared. If you marry him and this is the path he wants to take then you just have to support him and hope for the best. I'd be scared, too.

Well, even if your fiancee is a higher rank and does not have to go on missions, most of the deployed men, even the ones who sit in an office, have to do patrols. So, your fiancee could end up in a Middle Eastern or African country with a desk job, but still have to go outside the base. If he's a field-grade officer, there are times when he'll have to go into the field.

That bar never ever stopped a bullet one. Two and i am sorry for this is going to sound very Rude.

If you can not fully support what ever he faces while in the Military then for you and him to have a complete life with out this issue being in the way ask him not to join. Military Wives have a role as well and they do it very well. They can't do that if they can't at least support there soldier 100%.

It'll depend on his job. My husband is a cop and even the officers are at risk for his career field. But our neighbor's job never deploys, he's been in for 16 years and has not left the country (programer.) I was in for 4 years and flew around the world (cop.)

EVERYONE deploys! If you are worried and he really wants this then you might want to think of finding someone else to be with. It's very important that soldiers have VERY supportive spouses because their jobs are very stressful without having to worry about homelife!

You should also realize that it's his life and if it's something he really wants to do then you should support his decision. These guys are heroes and you should be honored that he would like to become one of those heroes!

Why do not you ask him what he desires? That makes greater experience. everybody has diverse desires while they're deployed. i mandatory replace blades for my electric powered shaver consistently. while uncertain shop it user-friendly and deliver him issues are fairly desires. like the guy on right here pronounced socks. men are user-friendly and in basic terms choose for and choose user-friendly products like cleansing soap, shirts/clothing, magazines, food that wont soften or pass undesirable. Ask the guy, and you gets your answer

As a Lieutenant, his chances of deployment would be high.

You should support him in his desires to protect the US from terrorists, even if you don't like the guy in office.

If he is an officer attached to a combat job, he will be deployed. When one goes active duty, they need to be prepared to go where ever the mission needs dictate. It may Kuwait, it may be anchorage Alaska.

EVERYBODY deploys, regardless of Branch, paygrade or job specialty. remember: Deployment does NOT automatically equal a trip to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Bull crap, you wont neccesarily get deployed, rumors are just that, rumors. He wont get deployed until he has orders in his hands stating that he is getting deployed. he might not get deployed with his unit, thers is always a big. big chance of getting cross-leveled to fill in the gaps with another unit that is in need of his rank/MOS.
