Most Christians believe that Jesus is God.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity states that there is one true God made up of three separate but equal persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.

The Bible does not contain the word Trinity. However, the Holy Trinity is hinted at repeatedly in both the Old and New Testaments. For many biblical references, see: http://www.cwo.com/~pentrack/catholic/Trinity.txt

Under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the early Christians prayed and struggled over these hints for a couple of centuries. The concept of the Holy Trinity (three equal persons in one God) was mainstream Christianity in 325 A.D. at the Council of Nicaea and our belief is expressed in the Nicene Creed from that council:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. ...

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. ...

This belief is shared by most Christian denominations including Roman and Orthodox Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Episcopalians, and the Salvation Army.

With love in Christ.

Jesus disciples came to this awareness by understanding what Jesus did and taught. When for example Jesus said you have heard it said thou shalt not commit adultery but I say to you do not look lustfully upon a woman for you are committing adultery in your heart already his followers knew that God had initially given the commandment Jesus was quoting. Who else could replace it except God? The religious authorities understood what Jesus was saying and often challenged Him about such claims. Even at his trial before the High Priest when the case is collapsing Jesus is put under oath and asked if He is God's Son. Of course his answer was yes and He was condemned to death for blasphemy. The signs Jesus had worked during his ministry were ones that revealed the breaking into human history of God's Reign. Only God could bring this about. The Letter to the Hebrews speaks of God commanding the angels to worship the Son. God would not have us worship a false God. While the Jews did not have an understanding of how the One God could have a Son or how anyone like Jesus could be God in the complete sense, later Greek pilosophy gave language and concerpts to believers to explain the experience the disciples had with Jesus. Only God could do and say what Jesus had done and spoken. Thomas acknowledges Jesus risen from the dead with the exclamation "My Lord and My God." This profession of faith is the highlight of John's gospel and the result of the Easter experience. Notice when Jesus speaks with the woman at the well in Chapter Four of John's gospel how her titles for Jesus develop from "Sir" to "Prophet" to the "Annointed" etc.
This is how the believers first let the evidence fit together into a fully mature faith in Jesus as God.
In Revelation the Lamb bearing the marks of slaughter stands on the altar and is worshipped by Heaven. The total witness of the Christian Scriptures reveals the Faith of the Church in Jesus as God. While many argued about how this could be and some explanations are more satisfying than others the central truth is that In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was in God's Presence, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He gave power to those who accepted Him to become children of God.

George, it seems that you have gotten plenty of answers. And the brutally honest answer is no one can really answer it. I have studied several religions and even with in the same congregation the ministers answer a bit different and when I have gone back sometime later, they sometimes have answered differently themselves the second time. As long as you know that Jesus is your saving grace and died for your sins you are ok, and God probably doesn't worry about how you picture the ruling of heaven.

A note. The TRINITY is belief that the 3 ARE 1. Jesus is God. And that is what the Catholic Church practices.

Yes, Jesus is God, he is also the Holy Spirit, there fore according to transitive property They are all eachother. The christian god is defined as a Tri-une god. A god that takes 3 forms, but is still one god. Hindu's have the same idea with there god Brahma(sorry if I got the name wrong) All of these other hindu deities are part of Brahma, they are all Brahma, just different forms, Just like God has different forms.

There is something I notice, Christianity/Judahism are the only religions where there gods don't have names, they are just "God" does that seem weird to anyone else.

No, he's a son of God like us all. He was the word of God revealing his father and The Christian Way to the world. He prayed to his father in heavan because they were seperate. If he was God, he could not die and there would be no true sacrifice. He would have laughed at his executioners. I think he was depending on fate and a little help from his dad to survive the crucificion. That is the true miracle.

Humans can turn anyone or anything into a deity or God. For those who believe in Jesus (myself included) He is God. Faith is that which we can't prove but believe anyway. No one could convince me that Jesus isn't God.

That said, for those who don't believe, I'm sure that no one could convince them that he is. Many Christians think that it is their duty to convert the world. I think it is my duty to practice what I believe (which is hard enough, believe me) Jesus will call those who belong to him. That's not my job.
