I agree with you about what befell Spirituality vs Religion. Following a specific religions tenets it's just plain EASIER..lol
Sad, but too many people either don't take the time or are afraid to seek the Truth on their own. Let's face it...it IS a daunting task to do the seeking...and it's a painful process, too.
Peace

A childish sense of belonging to something and a sense of superiority and a way to take money from the gullible. I can't think of any non-selfish reason why anyone would need or want to be part of a religion. It's like the same reason people cheer for their favourite sports team or want to belong to the "cool group" in high school.

Actually...not only do they have no purpose, (i think) they are also rendering people, who truly wants to seek The Way, unable to ascend out of this maze we live in.

How many people can calmly look at this situation and reject this 'conventional wisdom', given that whoever tries to break the 'norm' are subjected to critism and (verbally) stonned to death?

btw, i am not an atheist, neither do i worship in a religion :)

Because no one can 'prove' how our universe started so it could well have been an act of G-d.

I think people cling to religion in the hope that there is more to all this and so what if people wanna think like that, if it comforts people then why not.

I don't know if G-d really exists but I like to think he does and that makes me happy.

Some will say to be one with god. Others will say to be a moral person. Who knows, each person has their own reasons why religion serves a purpose for them.

Religion still exists due to simple Freudian denial. Most people refuse to believe that their parents shoveled so much supernatural bullshit down their throats.

Fear of death being the end. Since the begining of mankind he has made up stories about some kind of afterlife because the dead people they saw didn't look like they were having much fun anymore.

It has no use in today's society other than to give a sense of community and warm fuzziness. But children are brought up with it by their parents. For details, see:
