I was wondering if anyone has examples of the same picture but with different cameras and their megapixels. Like 3.2mp vs 8.1mp, something like that. Or a site that has examples like that. I can't find any! Thanks.

I have a few photos on Flickr to include in a discussion on how many pixels are enough. Go to my page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/ Near the top, click on "tags." In the "Jump to" box, enter the word "Pixels" and then press the "GO" button. Some of the pictures are from a 4 MP or even 3 MP camera, showing you what you might expect without any cropping. I think they are quite acceptable. Some of the pictures are from a 10 MP camera (the swan and the pansies), showing the value of having those large images so that you can crop a smaller image out of the original picture and still end up with a satisfactory image. There is one VGA picture, just to show what you could expect from 640 x 480 pixels - not much.

If you want, you can look at all of the pictures on my site and click "All sizes" and then "Original." If you multiply the original dimensions, you will be able to tell how many pixels you are actually looking at. This does not necessarily tell you how many megapixels the camera was that took the picture, because the picture might be cropped, but at least you will start to get an idea what's there.

A megapxel is 1 million pixel ,the term used no of pixel used in an image. In specially in digital camera the picture quality depends upon the quality of the image sensor used in it.like ccd , (charge coupled divice ) c' mos sensors.the quality of a picture during enlargement to higher size will not be good if the it is in high mega pixel ( high resolution ) say example in olden days web camera 's are giving smal image only if you enlarge to bigger size pic may not be vissible may be blurred.(3.2 mega pixel only 2048×1536 ) same time if it is from 8.1mega pixel camera you can enlarge up to A4 or higher size pic quality will be much better .(> 3200×2400 ) you will feel the difference when you print with high resolution color printers. pl check with link given below for more information .
