Well, I've become a lot more confident. I have started the assistant coaching course, which I'm really enjoying. I do compete but mainly in kata sections. I would never have had the courage to do these things 10 years ago. I have found a new passion in my life and have found a new direction to take.
The martial arts have also given me a sense of peace and serenity.

Wow... i have to say, martial arts has affected every perspective of my life. the reason i joined at first was only an interest. back then, i had little confidence and self esteem, not too many good friends, and a heap of stress from school. it felt like a downhill spiral. when a friend mentioned he took martial arts, my interest was sparked. i decided that i would try it out. it was an interesting ride at first. i was the youngest, the only girl, and the smallest. despite everything, though, i decided i would keep it up and see what happened. eventually, i became good friends with everyone there. our dojo setting is like a family. just as my relationships were headed for the better, so was my health. i felt more confident with my body mentally and physically. on another note, i have learned some core qualities. discipline, fairness, courage... and those are only a few! all i can say is: martial arts will always be a part of my life!

i've learned a great deal of humility & discipline as a result of the rigorous standards i am required to meet nearly everyday in martial arts. sometimes i don't always meet those standards, so i'm far from arrogant, & not meeting my goals just makes me work harder. the physical portion of martial arts has made me realize that my body is a temple, & if i properly take care of it, it will perform the things i need it to.

martial arts has sculpted my life into something most 15 year old girls do not have.

What's happ'n, big pimpin. Man, martial arts has improved my life in a lot of ways. When I was younger, I got interested martial arts by watching the acrobatic exaggerations on T.V. and movies (You know: Like Enter the Dragon, Fist of Fury, Power Rangers, Karate Kid, etc.) I remeber thinking, "Damn. I wanna do that when I grow up." When I first got into martial arts, Tang Soo Do, at about 13 or 14, I realized that I wanted to learn how to become more powerful (so people wouldn't screw with me.) However the senior student wasn't really in it to teach, he was just in it for the money. Ain't THAT some shyt! LOL Well my mom realized that too and she took me to another spot across town who said that lessons were free. Automatically I was caught of guard because I thought that the techniques were probably rigged. But I was wrong. The grand master of my new style, Zenshin Ki Do, didn't want any profit off of this. He wanted to teach us. He helped me when I screwed up. Told me about my many strengths and few, but costly, vulnerabilities when sparring. He taught me how to fight so that I wouldn't have to. And he helped me to maintain discipline. From that day forward, I didn't want to study just for the hell of it anymore, but I wanted to study to unlock all of the secrets in my journey of martial arts. Now, next to music, Martial arts is my one true passion.

Hi there

I don't know about how it has improved my life but it has certainly helped me to keep it together when everything else in my life was falling apart. You learn so much than just fighting skills if you can respect the arts for what they really are. All conflicts we face in life are the same you just need the maturity to be able to handle them correctly. This is where the arts can help.

Best wishes

It's helped me greatly. I've met so many great people and it's great knowing that there are other people out there, especially coz heaps of people who do karate with me go to my school, who share the same interests as me. I now have more friends, confidence in myself and others, and i know that i can defend myself if i'm ever in a bad situation.

x...Kootonii.

It also helped me improve my understanding of Japanese culture and language which are things i've been studying for years.

First of all, it gives you a connection to history and tradition. Second, it's a way to defend yourself and your property in emergency situation, allowing for an allayment of fears. 3rd, living an active life leads to fewer sicknesses, fewer hospital visits and a longer life outside a sickbed. (Active elderly tend to die quickly, while those who didn't exercise tend to have long drawn out, and painful deaths... this is not a 100% statistic, but then again, what is?) Finally, practice of a "do" or "Tao," (Way) is an excellent way to increase wisdom.
