My beliefs seem to be quite in line with yours. But those of us who want to ride both sides of the fence are usually not the first to speak when evolution/creation are discussed, because most people want you to take a stand one way or the other.
We have chosen not to interpret scriptures literally, and that's OK. Some people choose to interpret them literally. And that's OK. Some people don't believe at all what the scriptures say, and don't believe God had any hand in the process. And that's OK.
The fact is, the debate will continue unsolved, because we'll never actually know the answer in our lifetime. And that's OK too. Everyone just needs to relax, enjoy their own beliefs, and let others do the same.

Many people follow the idea that maybe the means God used to create all the species was through the evolution of the species and many don't. I like to keep an open mind, but I see some reasons against it.
1. Evolution relies on death, on the "survival of the fittest". However, the Bible tells us that death did not enter the world until after Adam sinned. Therefore in that regard evolution is incompatible with the teaching of the Bible.
2. While evolution is the best current scientific theory on the origin of the species, it far from proven. It can be disputed on scientific grounds:
- Since natural selection destroys information, it cannot of itself be the source of diversity as Darwin originally thought.
- Scientists then saw mutation as the source of this diverstiy. However, no one has ever observed a mutation that increases the complexity of a species.
- And if mutations were random as the theory suggests, the probability of one species evolving into another one given a sequence of random mutations is astronomically small when you consider that the majority of intermediate forms would be less successful than their parents.
3. Personal opinion: the main reason people insist on evolution is that it provides a way of explaining one aspect of creation without having to admit that there is a God who ultimately will be their judge.
So they're my reasons for suggesting that in fact evolution is both untrue and inconsistent with the teaching of the Bible. In *practical* terms, I don't think it matters much. So long as you accept that God created the world and will judge the world and has offered a way of escaping judgement through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, the exact mechanism that God used to create the world is not all that important.

I think there are a lot of Christians who believe in God and evolution. I guess the key is whether you believe the accounts in Genesis are literal or not. Some people believe that when God talks about plant and animal life being created that he might have made it happen in a way that the scientists would call evolution. Not all Christians see a dichotomy.

Evolution demystifies God. This is why most believers reject evolution. Well the good news is I am different. Evolution and God are compatible. Evolution explains part of the process of God arriving to create a man the same way big bang explains another process of God creating the universe.

I'm glad you asked that question. Clearly one can think up many different ways in which The Bible can coexist with evolution. It is not always the one against the other.
Creationists are a subset of Christians. As such they are the MOST deluded of a deluded group.
For those of you that try to make sense of it and incorporate evolution into you thinking, there is hope for you. You are thinking and reasoning. None of us have the whole picture. Those that can see strict Creationism ('Intelligent design') does not make sense, have a bigger piece of that picture than those that do.

May be they do go hand in hand... religions are not opposed to evolution AFTER creationism. Many species have evolved over time due to a number of reasons and no religion would deny that. But all Abrahamic religions at least believe in creationism at the start.

Look at it this way.
Evolution is a theory, which has been around for 150 years (ish).
God and Creation has been discussed worshiped and considered for thousands of years. Recorded in ancient manuscripts with unquestionable pedigree.
There is no link between man and any other species. So if man evolved from apes, it must have happened overnight, which destroys the evolution theory.
History shows that creatures can adapt to their environment. For example, sheep in cold regions grow thicker coats. That's not evolution it's just the workings of nature, created by God.

They cannot ever go hand in hand, as evolution is contrary to the word of God. God told us He created us and we believe it. That settles it for us. and so many books are written today to show the proofs of the Bible, be it fulfilled prophecies, signs and wonders MIRACLES, all over the world, or even the archealogical digs. Things will change and evolve thru the years due to temperture changes, etc. THat is Gods way of protecting us, animals, etc. See a dog moving to a coler climate, and watch the hair he suddenly grows that is thicker. God is good. BUt, we dont evolve into other specieies, and evolution teaches that. Each species was created by GOd, just how it is. And God tells us that. So the teachings of evolution can never go hand in hand. God tells us if scienc, KNOWLEDGE< runs against what He tells us, it is false and needs to be run from, and know it is FALSE>
LEts give God the full credit for all that He has done and continues to do for all of us. Even Darwin knew by the time he died, that he had been wrong. books written on that too.
Many scientists in the world todaydo not belive in evolution and they write books too, and they run along Gods word, side by side. They are CHristian. But, the other ones that preach evolution, they preach against what God says, and therefore you know they are false. But, we all have a choice on what we believe and who we obey, GOd or the devil.
all a free choice...... Seek God and you will KNOW>

Of course they go together. The creation story was a means of explaining how things came to be at a time when there was very little understanding of real science.
When I was much younger I wrestled with the same issue. I finally realized that it doesn't so much matter the exact details of how things were created, but what mattered simply is that God created.

Because Evolution asked God to the prom, and God was really happy, but then it was just a trick so the cool kids could dump pig's blood on God, and God went all telekinetic and killed everybody.
