I dont like that I prefer ppl ask me to pet my dog . I have a chihuahua and you would not believe how many ppl just come right up to them and pet them good thing they are socialized. I have two chihuahuas one male and one female and they are both very good natured . I prefer ppl to ask me if they can pet their dog . and I always ask if I can pet . I wish ppl would teach their children to do the same thing as well . good luck .

I never mind if people pet my dogs with or without permission because they are therapy dogs so my dogs are in situations where being petted is a must. I will say most people ask, usually children forget to ask and just pet them, but I socialize my dogs very well plus they are raised with kids so that is not a problem. However, when I fostered dogs I would not allow anyone to pet them and if they attempted to pet them without permission I always said they could not but that was only because some of the dogs were very shy and in need of socialization. I did not want to be responsible for a bite but as they became better socialized I welcomed petting to further the dog's trust in people.

Some of my dogs would accept such an overture and some would back off. It is rude to touch someone's dog without asking and a darned good way to get yourself bitten. No one should ever pet or, worse yet, pick up a dog you don't know. Not all dogs like meeting strangers and some need to be approached slowly and carefully. Always ask for the owner's permission before petting or handling a strange dog.

This is a lot more common than most people realize, and one of the reasons I suggest people vaccinate only the minimum amount to keep their dogs safe. Vaccination with modified live virus vaccines probably is protective for life, and adult dogs do not need booster shots (no annual shots!)... a dog is either immune or it is not... re-vaccination will not make it more immune. I don't know how many animals were vaccinated at your club, but this sounds like more dogs than I would expect to have reactions. I would have serious questions about which vaccines were purchased, how they were stored, etc. The neurological reactions make me wonder if the distemper component was improperly active, and I would find this very scary... dogs can develop encephalitis from vaccinations gone wrong. I would document EVERYTHING, and I would report it to whoever it is which keeps data on adverse vaccine reactions (I suspect you are not in the U.S., yes?). It is also probably that the vaccine manufacturer can be held liable for any resultant medical care that is required. I would not use vaccines from this manufacturer again. If you wanted to share information about which vaccine was used, some might find that helpful.

I made it a point to socialize both my Golden's at a very young age. I have not come across to may people who do not ask first if they can pet my dogs. If I do then I very politely ask them not to pet them until I think it's alright. My dogs always go into a sit position when I stop to talk with some one while on a walk. Usually it's another dog owner. I always get very nice comments on how well behaved they are.
Yes I always ask permission before I approach someone elses dog, then I let them sniff me first before I pet them.

I hate when people just come up to a strange dog and start petting it. They would probably be the first to call euthanizing it if it bit them too. Personally, our dog is friendly, but he is also very playful. He doesn't bite, but he might jump up on the person and they could get upset about it, so I try to keep people from petting him unless he already knows them. And I never pet a strange dog without the owner's permission. Usually I wait until the dog approaches me and starts putting his head under my hands, they way they do.

I own 2 dobermans, a rotty cross and a 213lb bull arab, no one pets my dogs without asking, and i very rarely get asked. But it always drives me up the wall to see someone just walk up to a dog they dont know and pat it, its just asking to be bitten. I grew up with great danes, and i used to walk a female we had when i was only 9 years old, and people used to come up and put their small children on her back like she was a horse, the dog out weighed me, if she was going to attack someone, how the hell was i going to stop her. I still cant get over how stupid some people are, thankfully though, she was an absolute angel, all sweetness for people and kids. Now, with my dobermans, kids are fine, but if an adult was to approach and do that, they would probably be missing a big chunk of their hand, the other dogs are fine, big softies. If i spot a beautiful dog, i will walk up and talk to the owner, but i will never touch a dog i dont know, even if the owner says its alright, dogs are unpredictable animals, its just you never know, the dog might not like the way you tie your hair back.

I always ask permission to pet a dog. It's for my own safety. As far as anyone petting one of my dogs without permission, I don't really mind.

while i don't like people touching my dogs it depends on the dog, i had one dog that would not let a stranger close enough to touch him unless i told him to,then i let them know that he might bite, and to let him come to them and if he does let him smell the back of there hand and not the palm,i have another dog that will go to people to be petted but he is just 6 months old and has not experienced the bad people yet.i always let the dog decide.and yes i always ask for permission.

I do not allow strange people to touch my dogs, ever. I have a policy against people petting my dogs and it is enforced all the time. There has never been an occasion where someone just reached out and touched my dog, so I am not sure how I would react. There have been people at work who have asked me if they can touch one of my dogs and the answer is always the same, "No".
I also keep that policy to my self. I never touch other people's dogs, ever. I have a habbit of putting my hands in my pockets whenever I meet a dog and have always been that way. It is safer and not as confusing for the dog who does not understand why a a strange, non-pack member is touching him. I hope I have helped.

My dogs make it clear they will not tolerate this behavior from strangers by either backing up,moving sideways away from the hand or by snapping at it.
When people are smart enough to ask permission first I always tell them to ask the dog.If he wants their attention he'll ask for it.
I don't make it a habit to go out of my way to pet other dogs but if they're jumping all over me demanding my attention I give it without asking the owner. If it makes them angry they should'nt let their dog demand the attention from a stranger.
