Who's had this job? Is it boring, is it interesting? Tell me a little bit about your time spent as 88M.

You will drive vehicles. You will drive them a lot. All types from sedans to HUMVEEs to HEMTTs to 5-tons to 18-wheelers.

You will drive when and where you are told and you will haul what you are told.

When you're not driving you'll be doing mostly nothing (boring) and when you are driving you will be tired and stressed.

Sometimes people will shoot at you and sometimes you will shoot back. Sometimes you will encounter obstacles (such as IEDs) and you will overcome those obstacles to complete the mission.

You probably won't fix vehicles (that's the mechanic's job) and you probably won't be assigned as a dispatcher (that's movement's job). You will drive. You will drive whatever you're told to and you will do it well. That's what we 88Ms do - we drive and complete the mission.

And without the 88M everything else comes to a rapid halt for lack of food, ammo, water, fuel, weapons, etc... We, the 88Ms deliver!

I was convoy security for 88M they are in need of some truck drivers in the army. Especially overseas. You will be running supply routes day in and day out. Im almost certain you will get to see at least one tour of Iraq if you are enlisting as an 88M. But Im sure that the enlistment bonus is real good.

It's an important and dangerous job. I'm in aviation but I had a soldier that re-classified as a 88M to deploy.
His vehicle was hit by an IED and he did not survive.

88M are drivers. You can expect to be deployed thats for sure.

In the states they just work in the motorpool fixing vehicles and whatnot.

When they are deployed they work in motorpools, they move conex's (large storage units) and they go on missions.

Not that bad of a job. They get a lot of time off when in the States because they don't ALWAYS have vehicles to fix. They also spend a lot of time picking up garbage....because they don't ALWAYS have vehicles to fix!!

You will get shot at. IEDS will hit your vehical. some of your friends will get hurt and die. i worked with these guys in Bagdad when i was up there (im now back in Kuwait) its not a real fun job and it is probably the most dangerous job in the army right now. Insergents will take shots at these guys more then any other group cause they arent really protected.
