It's like he's trying to run in a dream or something, it kinda creeps me out.

My dog does that, and I used to think she was having a seizure or something. It is kinda creepy, but apparently they're having a dream when they're doing that. They're probably imagining themselves running through grassy fields of daisies, or something like that. So in actuality, the worst thing you could do is wake them up then. I know I would be ticked off if someone woke me up from a really good dream!

Kick, twitch, growl, and make odd noises is all perfectly normal. Some dogs have much more active dreams than others. It's fun to watch some times and guess what they are dreaming about!

Just like us dogs need REM sleep to be healthy

REM (rapid eye movement) or level 4 sleep is when we dream and is the deepest level of sleep.

When sleeping us and animals cycle through levels of sleep from 1 to 4

For people it is the norm for their eyes to move very quickly and it is also the norm that you move.

it is the same for Dogs and cats.
But they tend to jerk their legs they can bark and their mouth can twitch.

Do not wake up your dog during this

he needs to dream to be healthy

I have a very small dog and I just think that when he is sleeping he is dreaming of grand adventures

I found a great site for info on any pet
the arcticals are writen by vets
and they are on things from names
to care / behavoir and any thing else you can think of

YES! Dogs dream just like people do. We've seen our dog lying on his back snoring away with his legs running in the air. It's totally normal and super cute!!

You answered your own question. That is what he is doing ~ running after a big rabbit, or something, in a dream. Perfectly normal.Mine will make noises along with the running motion. When I see her in that state, I usually wake her.

It is normal. My dog is 7, and he twitches in his sleep, blinks, may yelp or kinda bark and growl. And it is funny to watch when he raises his lips to snarl... because it isn't smooth, but is jerky like an old fashioned black and white silent movie...
