I have a Makarov PMM I got as a swap with a Russian officer who was visiting as an instructor for my Indonesian P1- an Indonesian clone of a Colt M1911.
I think it's absolutely brilliant aside from having to make Makarov soup every so often!
Great little gun- I actually prefer it to my P226 I usually carry- it's so much simpler.

What about you? experiences with Russian/Soviet weapons?

AK-47 is superb. We use the AK 107/108 among some soldiers. Due to political reasons we stocked up on the M16 and AR16 only to regret it. Now we import and now commencing shortly manufacture our own clone of the FN FAL- but with short barrel.

Dragunov- brilliant weapon.
Yes- mag release annoying- but still sperb gun. I think my Russian friend was cheated lol! No- P1 fine- casing is ugly- but rifling and milling fine.

I would have to agree with the Makarov. I was not to fond of the AK 47, but I am also not a fan of the M-16. In this day and age, with the battles we are fighting I am willing to sacrifice a little long range accuracy for the compact weapon. I do have to say, the weapon I enjoy the most is the 240B. I love it. man, something about that weapon just does it for me. If you havent had the chance, try and get familiar with it, I know its sick, but my 240 is the love of my life, lol. Anyway, I prefer the M-4 for my rifle. I am not too familiar with the AK-74, or the PK. For my money if I had to choose a russian weapon, Makarov would be it.

hi, i will answer your first question, then edit the following day night when I can look at the YouTube hyperlinks. Fave Composer: Ralph Vaughan Williams (my fave classical CD is a RVW set with Norfolk Rhapsody, in the Fen u . s ., the Tallis Fantasia, and 5 variations on Dives and Lazarus - the song is wonderful, majestic, with an amazing kind of dignity). EDIT, a million day later: purely went to the hyperlinks & listened to those 2 products. Little Meg, as a song Fan I could desire to assert thank you for introducing me to this composer's song. The 2nd piece is a stunning waltz, and fairly relaxing listening; yet that first piece is awesome. The austere and somber beginning up, with the deep low be conscious accents (hi, i'm a bass participant, & i admire the low notes! lol), gets a listener's interest. yet then it segues into an lively substantial part of the music, crammed with existence. Then, almost completely, it transitions returned to the 1st subject. Compelling listening.

The East German made AK47 was a good gun and some are still in use in Iraq, its a shame the British army never bought them after the Wall came down as th SA80 is crap.

You sound rather familiar old bean.
AK-74 brilliant weapon. Makarov PMM brilliant too. CZ 85 I think is better.

I have a shortened version of the AK 47 called a Krinkov. A friend of mine helped me do the conversion with a kit I purchased.

I do not know how effective it would be in combat but it is a ton of fun to shoot.

I'd have to agree on the Makarov. I don't care for the position of the magazine release but other than that they're excellent.

My favourite is definately the most famous gun of all time, the Kalashnakov AK-47. I have read that this gun was so good in its day that American soldiers in Vietnam often collected them from the bodies of dead VC soldiers and dumped their Armalite assault rifles

used a bruni 9mm once, very tidy weapon, only range testing though so not sure how good it would be in the field. got through about 80 rounds and no jams
