God, I though it was just me....... people say it's OCD but I remember doing it as a very young child when life was great, no worries, great family and no one I loved had ever died - it must be a genetic thing I guess caus emy mum and I have discussed this and we both do it.... it's part of who you are, just go with the flow.

Just a little case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Personally, I call it a "technique". I'm a counter, only when I'm feeling particularly edgy. It's a way of soothing myself, much like a baby with a pacifier, I guess. It used to be just threes. Threes this, threes that!! Then, when threes can't hapeen...AAAHHH!!! Dilemma. So, being the creative creatures we are, I said that 2 times 3 is 6, Ok, now I can use 6...& on and on.. I make it happen! No, I'm not a tweak or a freak. No one knows I'm counting either. I did talk to a pychologist about it and she said most people are a little OCD. Some people have it serious, like they wash their hands a zillion times a day and meds can help them, BUT our "technique" just helps us cope with stressful moments...or boredom. Don't worry, just be creative!

It sounds like OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Apparently David Beckham sufferes from it too. He arranges his tins in the cupboard so all the labels are facing the front.
I remember being in junior school and if I went to walk over two drains, id have to touch the first one with my left foot and the second then with my right. Im 31 now and still do it if I come across two drains. Its very strange indeed and only I know im doing it as I just do it in my head too.

Yeah i do a similar sort of thing; but didn't want to tell anyone till now !! I reckon it's a sort of obsessive compulsive problem. Think we've probably got some sort of mental health issues; but am afraid to go to the doc !!!
Not much help to you but at least you know you're not alone.

I agree with the sensible responses that you've received. It's a form of O.C.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and although huni is correct ... in her way, I wouldn't bother going to see a councillor. It's got nothing to do with the council. You should see your GP and ask for a referral to see a counsellor.

My friend had that only she kept counting to 6...or maybe 9 I don't remember, but it's not important. It was horrible. In the middle of class she would start counting, out loud too. She said it started out only in her head, but then she started saying a few of the numbers out loud and before long the urge to say it out loud overcame her. She is in a mental hospital now, you may want to consult a doctor about this before you end up like poor, poor Linda.

I have something similar in that as long as I can remember, I count the amount of letters in a word when reading them, without thinking about it, if that makes sense. I think it is a form of OCD, but if it doesn't disrupt your life and it's not too worrisome, I wouldn't bother about it.
