ice or heat packs can help, put them on your forehead or neck (or both) wherever the main tension is.
that and a good nap

No, there are many many types of headaches. There are many many types of migraines. (I have two types of migraines, I should know!) When you are getting a tension headache, you'll feel the tension in your neck first, usually. Then you'll have the headache. A good way to relieve a tension headache is some sort of relaxation technique. If you haven't had your headaches formally diagnosed, do that ASAP. You need to get them managed by a doc, even if they are infrequent. That way you will know the best way to prevent them and get rid of them the next time you have one.

A good massage, loosening clothing around the neck and shoulder area ie.. woman remove their bra straps, blokes undo shirt buttons and ties. Keep area warm, and try and sit/lie in a way that makes the head naturally supported so that your neck is not struggling to hold the weight.

You're right about not wanting to take medication all the time because in the long run this can eventually bring on the headaches due to a mild addiction within your system.

I hope it clears soon! I once had headaches interspersed with migraines for about 6 months solid, and I couldn't remember what it was like to feel no pain. After seeing the specialist, it turns out that one of the causes was the muscle layers over my skull going into spasm and so it was like getting cramp in my head!

Find someone who knows Reiki, or practices another form of energy-healing.

Energy healing is the fastest and most effective way I know of.

It is done with the hands, but they do not need to touch you,
except for a brief moment at the end.

Relief is virtually certain. Usually the headache is gone in one minute. Occasionally, a second attempt is needed, after a few minutes wait.

Some people reject the idea immediately. Some ridicule the idea and even the person who offers help.

Belief in it is not necessary. You need only accept it, and those that accept it win, every time.

For me it was a natural thing to do as I began doing it as a child. The rate of success speaks for the practice ...no failures.

Accupressure. You'll find a spot on the pad (meaty area next to your palm) of your thumb that really hurts when you press it. Rub this hard with the knuckle of your forefinger for about 60 seconds. It will hurt quite a bit if you're doing it properly, but the pain from your headache should disappear very quickly.

I get tension headaches because I clench my jaw/teeth when I get stressed. I've heard that if you put a pencil between your teeth (biting down on it lightly to hold it in place) it forces your jaw to relax - i find that helps. also, this may seem silly, but I find if I fill my cheeks with air, one at a time for a few seconds each, this helps relieve the tension in my jaw.

good luck!

Without drugs?
Well, lying in a dark room often helps, with maybe a cooling strip or something like a wet flannel on your forehead.
However, thats not exactely quick nd easy if you are out and about! But apart from that, normal paracetamol or ibuprofen will give long lasting relief.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.
