Have just been shopping for new clothes for my daughter who is only 15 months old.... was looking at summer stuff in size 2 and lots of it is midriff tops, hotpants, mini skirts etc. I am no prude but this bothers me, why can't little girls look like little girls, rather than teenagers out looking for their first boyfriends??!! what do you think?

I've got a better question. What's with the parents who actually buy this stuff? I was at the aquarium yesterday and there was a little girl, about 5, wearing silver strappy 2" heels. Aside from anything else, that's a safety hazard. What were her parents thinking? When I was a day care director parents would tell me that "She'll only wear designer jeans etc. " I had a standard speech that started out "You are the parent, she is the child." Stick to your guns as your daughter gets older. If you shop carefully you can still find attractive clothes suitable for kids. As she gets older let her make choices, but choose from things you find acceptable.

It's been nine years since my daughter was a baby but I can tell you it doesn't get any better. At nine years old I have to really shop to find little girl clothes. What makes it hard is that so many of the mommies dress their children in those sexy and/or revealing clothes and then my daughter stands out as odd. Fortunately for us she has a greatly defined since of modesty and likes feminine clothing that is modest. She calls the the risque, sexy clothing 'hoochie momma' clothing and won't have a thing to do with it, thank goodness! Thank goodness that at 9 my daughter doesn't feel the need to follow the pack and try to look 16. Stick to your guns. You have a long road to travel.

i totally agree with you, its unbelievable.

I found a baby g string bikini in a store near home and i told the people at the store what i thought, i couldnt believe that this was actually on sale, or that anyone would actually buy it and put it on their child.

I like to dress my daughter in dresses.
Long ones below the knee at least!!!
she loves them too. she feels like a little princess and looks it too.
I am always getting comments from older people male and female, saying how lovely it is to see a little girl in a dress.
And how true that is these days with the mini skirts and knee high black boots for 5 year olds.

I think it's gross!! They are just babies it's like we are making them older before they are ready by pushing them into nasty situations. For instance a 13 year old dressed like a 20 something year old and wonder why men make sexual advances towards them. How the heck are guys to know the age of girls when they all dress provocative from 1 day to 110 years old!!!

I totally agree with you, some of the clothes the companies expect us to put on our little girls are ridiculous...she's not a little hoochie momma, she's my baby girl! What are they thinking? Not just for babies though, I've seen some 6 year olds wearing things that 6 year old should not be wearing...it makes me wonder what their mothers are trying to teach them.

I agree with you. It's disgusting. I have a student who is six years old and has Down Syndrome who wears a shirt that says "Sexy" in rhinestones. Is that the message her parents want her to send? Normally I wouldn't mention the child's disability, but I think that makes her particularly vulnerable to perverts and creeps. I want to tell this little girl to turn her T-shirt inside out whenever I see her in it! It's frightening.

Corporate paedophilia, it's all about making money on the expense of our innocent youth that only want to follow a trend and be like the rest of their peers! This seriously worries the heck out of me, I have two baby girls of my own, I watch the news and I ball my eyes out most of the time, There are wolves out there hurtin babies! why provoke a situation?

i agree. it bugs me to no end to see kids clothing looking more and more "hootch" than ever before. i know they didn't make things like that when i was a kid and i'm only in my 20s.
maybe if people didn't buy these things and the manufacturers didn't produce these things we wouldn't have so many girls engaging in sex at such young ages and the other issues that come of dressing the part.
i think it's a parents responsibility not to buy things that make your child look older than they are and make them look like little street walkers.
same for wearing make up.... not till they are in their in their teens should they wear it.
in this day and age we really are forcing/encouraging our children to grow up too fast.
i never purchase things that aren't appropriate for a 2t girl to wear. she doesn't get miniskirts, no halter tops, no belly shirts, none of that! and she won't in the future if i have anything to say when she's with us

I have a little girl of my own and I really hate "sexy" baby clothes. I'm very liberal myself but I totally agree with you that kids should look like kids and not like shrunken porn stars.
No offense to porn though.

No i totally agree with you. Its like were forcing kids to grow up too fast. For some reason, its more popular now - parents think it makes the kids alot cuter.
