This is an excellent illustrated site to help you do the best for mom and her soon coming litter: http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/whelping.html

first I don't use bedding i use very thick paper. teh process is very messy
also i have found it much easier for training as when Ihave used blankets teh pups seem to want to use carpet more to potty on.
quite often my pups are pretty much paper trained now between 5-6 weeks old
At 4 weeks i put a blanket in on one side with food and water and at teh other side papers.
mom should do everything by herself. Ibring my ffemale to teh vets when they are 7-8 weeks pregnanct for a sonogram to make sure everything is going ok and to see how many and make sure they seem to be facing the right way or should I be prepared for possible roblems at birth.
I always have a birth kit ready whichincludes
wash clothes, towels, heating pad, forceps.blood stop, bulb to remove fluid in lungs, and i usually have some puppy replacement formula ( powder) and bottles just in case.
Good Luck
ps if you need any more help email me at kathy_decaprio@yahoo.com

There is a really good site that I have used in the past it is Breeding, Whelping and rearing puppies by Liza Lee Miller. It goes into the whole stages from conception through to when the puppies are ready to leave home at 9 weeks, it tells you what to feed and what to do and what to gather together for a whelping kit etc.

You should have looked into before you decided to get her pregnant. You don't have a clue about breeding so you shouldn't be doing it. There is much, much more to breeding than just sticking 2 dogs together which I KNOW you did.

There are to many dogs and not enough homes, mainly due to backyard breeders like yourself. Because of people like you dogs are being killed in shelters everyday.

Do everyone including your dog a favor and get her spayed. We don't need another litter in this world, especially from a backyard breeder. UGH!

I'm sure that she will handle it all by herself. You will have to worry when the pups are older - they will be a handfull.
