I installed windows 2000 upgrade over 98 on another computer, and even installed service pack 4 and cannot install ANY updates. I was prompted to install windows installer and BITS and winhttp 5.1 and they fail. I cannot install any other updates because these initial ones fail and will not take me further. Can anyone help here?

Windows 2000 update is still on till year 2010,,so it should work with you,,, so, the problem I think is corrupted files in your system,, the only solution is to try to format the drive your windows 2000 on,,and install it again,, I hope your files on other drive than that of windows 2000,,, or else you have to copy them first on a CD disk

sweetheart... upgrade to xp or vista. your operating system is outta date, which probably means your computer is as well. do yourself a headache free favor...treat yourself...I'm sure you deserve it...and purchase yourself a new or newer/used computer with a better operating system...frustration will be gone and you'll be much more officiant and all around happier....swear, really you will!! ;-)

it is now microsoft update .
your versions are not supported .go to microsoft.com and find supported versions
