Don't you wash it before you eat it anyway? What's the problem?

The sticker usually has the brand name or symbol as well as a number. The number is there so that the distributor can track it as well as so the supermarket can register that number into the cash register and it tells them what the fruit (or vegetable) costs per pound or per piece.

There is a recent idea to print bar codes on fruit with edible ink. This saves money, paper, time and mistakes. You will probably see it within the next couple of years.

It's so that everyone knows each and every fruit has been clinically approved. I'd hate to be the person putting the sticker on though. So, how much fruit SO YOU eat? and Wwhy are you a vegan, veganiroo?

It has nothing to do with "clinically" as almost all fruits and veggies are full of diseases - from those using the bathrooms and such and then touching everything with unwashed hands - after they got AIDS or Clamediah the night before ...

What the stickers are for - is most stores may have 22 different varieties of apples - each is a different price - so ... with the sticker on them in the clear plastic bags you put them in ... they can see if you mixed them or they are all the same.

Besides - when they run it in the cash register - they need a number to bring up what type fruit it is - most people would not know the differnece between a bing cherry or a thominson cherry ... a red delicious apple and a chinese snow apple ... For the check out guy or gal to guess what kind of fruit you got (they have tough times with lettuce and peppers too) - you may be paying 50 cents more a pound or more - for their mistakes.

Here is a hint - to kill all the germs and such on your fruits and veggies that uncaring people want to give you for free - as they touch and feel ...

Take a 1/2 cup of koshering or pickling salt to a gallon of water and disolve the salt in it ... soak the veggies or fruit in the brine solution for at least 20 minutes ... kills salmonella, AIDS, HIV, syphellis, ghonnoreah and every disease known to man ... so far.

Be careful with grapes - snotty nosed children most likely had their hands in your bag ... prior to your choosing it - as they swiped a grape they left you a surprise you may not be expecting on the grapes next to the one they stole ... soak them well ... and never just pop one in your mouth - or you should not complain of what you go home with.

Science and Doctors have stated that over 65% of ALL DISEASES ARE CAUGHT FROM YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE'S PRODUCE DEPARTMENT ... it is a fact. Starts with the immigrants in the field picking the fruit that do not know that they supposed to wash their hands after they took a dump in the ditch ...

I assume your question is not rhetorical.

The labels help the cashier in the supermarket register the fruit in the register. The label is not put in the supermarket, but by one of the fruit suppliers. In general, supermarkets prefer vegetable products that are sold individually, as opposed to sold by weight; they are more difficult to handle. In inventory, for instance, the label allows to decide which fruit has been longer on the shelf. Thus, the label allows the removal of older vegetables, keeping only fresh vegetables, and preserving a good reputation for the supermarket.

The label should be easily removable. I think it is but a small inconvenient given the benefits.
