I highly repect police officers. I am NOT implying they are FAT AND LAZY. I think that it is more than a stereotype but has some truth to it. If fact, the reason I am asking this question is becuase I know there is some other reason besides them being fat and lazy. I remember hearing there is a certain reason that cops like to eat donuts.... the calories in the donuts or something. I just wanted to know. Several people got on and complained about the question. One of them was even a "Top Contributor" I guess if I have a question like this I just shouldn't ask, even if I sincerly want to know? There is a real interesting reason for this ( i recall in the back of my mind ). Why are so many people bothered by this question?

People get offended because there are 50 other people everyday that ask this question to be derogatory and disrespectful. The law enforcement & police section was supposed to be for people who had genuine questions about law enforcement, but anymore it has just become a forum for criminals and police haters to bash anyone in law enforcement. Police Officers are getting tired of the fact that they come here to help people with their questions, only to be disrespected or ridiculed. Maybe your question is sincere, but you are likely the one out of thousands of people who would ask this as a serious question.
The answer is what other people have already told you. For years, donut shops were the only places open 24 hours where an Officer working in the middle of the night could stop and find a cup of coffee and something quick to eat. Nothing to do with the donut itself, only the convenience of it.

I hadn't noticed that you posted 4 questions on the same topic, so I'll copy/paste my answers here and there.... LOL.... Only because I love giving my 2 cents for 2 points.

I wonder how long that stereotype has been around. I think this started in small towns where police were allowed (encouraged) to stop by for a cup of coffee and a snack while on their patrols, free of charge. A way for businesses to show their appreciation and it gave officers a chance to get a snack during times when most businesses were closed. ?? Just guessing here.

Hubby says it started with "Car 54 Where are you?" about a doughnut shop.

Now, I have the utmost respect for the police and everything that they do for us everyday.... but I had to giggle when I saw this question because it reminded me of something I had seen on rotten.com

No offense, it's just a silly picture...

It's kind of funny, though, isn't it? LOL

ETA: If this offends ANYONE, and I get more than 3 thumbs down, I will delete the link.

I love these questions. I have been in law enforcement for 5 years now, and I never see cops at the donut shops. I think that people get their jollies off if they see just one cop at one because of the stereotype. I personally can't stand them, BUT, when you are working all night, some areas ONLY have a donut shop open 24 hours, like the first place I worked. We would go in for COFFEE and NOT donuts. My chief said we'd be in serious trouble if we were caught walking out of the place with a donut because of the stereotype!!

I'm not familiar with your original question, but I don't see why anyone would get bent out of shape by asking it. Sitcoms have worn out the stereotype and I've seen commercials associating police with donuts. Does anyone really take it seriously?
Anyway, here's my guesses: In a typical small town the donut place, like Dunkin Donuts, is the only 24 hour business open. In the middle of the night a good cup of coffee and a sugar rush might help keep them alert. Sometimes a donut shop is a hangout for the local motorcyclists and "common folk" in the area. A good place for officers to familiarize themselves with the locals and listen to whats going on; i.e., socialization.

I can tell you respect police by your poor use of backhanded insults.

Now I'm not saying you offend me or anything like that but somewhere I heard that you have a very small pizzle and only feel like a man when you can backhand anonymously while on YA. I am not trying to stereotype you but I think there is some truth to it. I guess there are some questions I shouldn't ask even if I sincerely want to know but is it true you got caught masturbating your little pizzle in the closet?

You know, I work 911 dispatch for a Sheriff's Dept, and it is completely a stereotype!!! Most of the officers I work with don't eat doughnuts because of that! Do you never eat doughnuts??? I know several people who aren't officers that eat them a lot more than all the officers I know put together! Why aren't they stereotyped? While on duty, certain places offer free food or drinks, and some places just deliver them to the office... Would you not eat it if it was free? Let a gift go to waste? What a stupid question!!!
