Hey, I'm wondering if there are any other Aussie's out here that get even a bit annoyed when someone (normally from America) spells "Aussie" like Ozzie or Ossie or says Ossie? I don't know why but it really annoys me.

Saying "I'm from OZ" i can handle but spelling it like Ozzie or Ossie or saying it like Ossie is what annoys me. Nicky_White85, I'm from IN Caboolture Shire (so i'm in a town near Caboolture), north of Brisbane, (but i'm a blues supporter) and i didn't think that Blue Heelers is on anymore. Is it? HelenES, I totally agree with you, Bush is a plain idiot... I also agree that Coff's is beautiful, i go there heaps when i visit my grandparents (they live in Urunga).

Yes, I do get annoyed. To misspell Aussie is lazy and bordering on the "Bart Simpson" mentality - you know, "Under-achiever and proud of it" type.

Good spelling shows a bit of pride in oneself that you are at least educated.

Well... that's my opinion.

I can handle the Ozzie .. I can't handle the Ossie .. I know that there may be little difference between the two .. BUT OSSIE is just so lame

I agree! "Ossie" pronunciation bugs me.
The other thing I hate (and it happened again just the other day) is when North Americans confuse Australia for the rest of the Commonwealth. I had just finished a conversation with a guy about how I'm from Melbourne, only to be farewelled with a "Cheerio" WTF? Since when is Melbourne in the UK?

I have a lot of Aussie friends (from Brisbane and Sydney) who are very annoyed at that. Also, when Americans think that Aussies speak like Steve Irwin!

PS: I love Brisbane!!!!!

heh, as an aussie, i am usually pretty pleased when an American has heard of Australia and doesn't confuse us with Austria.

Even more pleased if they understand that Australia is the most urbanised nation on earth so hardly any of us see kangaroos in our day to day business....

And totally pleased if they understand that Australia is about the same size as the 'mainland' US of A (not including Alaska of course) so don't have to keep telling me how big the US is.

;)

Most Americans don't seem to even realise there are other countries out there! Their president is one of the worst.
