If a person shrinks their 60GB XP partition and formats the new partition as a FAT32 partition, could Windows 98 then be installed onto the new partition without disturbing the existing XP. The user has music and pictures on his computer but does not play games.

I don't think that would be a problem. You should be able to multi-boot into different Operating Systems if they are in different partitions, but I haven't tried it.

I don't know exactly your purpose in doing this, but I personally might recommend that you download Virtual PC which is free from Microsoft, then you can install Windows 98 on a virtual machine and run in from within Windows XP. It uses a file on your hard drive to store the virtual hard drive.

You can install Windows 98 in any other drive except the one in which you have Windows xp.
