I think it's time we do something about the state of society. I am looking for ideas on how to pass legislature to end what is the decline of the American family. I feel for us to truly live as God intended, and as his son explicitly said to live, we MUST outlaw divorce and adultery. People have to go into marriage knowing it's forever, as intended. It should absolutely NOT be allowed to divorce. Please, help me by sharing with me your ideas on how we can stop this evil. I would also like to hear any ideas you have on making adultery illegal. People should be held accountable for thier sinful ways. Thanks and God bless.

Sasha H,
This has nothing to do with homosexuality or gay marriage. As it is illegal to even marry if gay, I hardly think they can be to blame for the horrible divorce and adultery rates. What happened to the sanctity of marriage? Once we FIX marriage as it is, we can work on the gay marriage situation.

There is no way to make such a law work.
Foreign countries have tried. I was in Chile while divorce was illegal there. The only thing that stopped was the paperwork. The married couple was still able to split up and live in separate houses.
The paperwork might say they are still married, but a true marriage does not involve having two people living in separate houses and refusing to speak to each other.
Chile finally came to its senses a few years ago and legalized divorce. It would be a shame to try to enact such a failed anti-divorce policy here in the US.

As a christian you are not putting into practice the characteristics of Jesus because He never forces anything on anybody. It is totally up to each individual to make their marriage work or to not cheat on their spouse. That is not something that can be controlled by legislature. Also how can you say marriage is forever if someone marries the wrong person? Do some more analyzing because the God I serve is not a God of force.

I agree that this might help society, but I also see that it won't happen. With the separation of church and state, it won't happen for the reason of living as God intended. If you could come up with some good scientific evidence that outlawing these things would help society, you might have a chance, though I can guarantee that most people won't like it. People like to know they have the freedom to leave a marriage if they want to or sleep with whoever they want if they want to.

this is what the Bible says about marriage and divorce.
(1 Corinthians 7:10-16) To the married people I give instructions, yet not I but the Lord, that a wife should not depart from her husband; 11 but if she should actually depart, let her remain unmarried or else make up again with her husband; and a husband should not leave his wife. 12 But to the others I say, yes, I, not the Lord: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and yet she is agreeable to dwelling with him, let him not leave her; 13 and a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and yet he is agreeable to dwelling with her, let her not leave her husband. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in relation to [his] wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in relation to the brother; otherwise, YOUR children would really be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving one proceeds to depart, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not in servitude under such circumstances, but God has called YOU to peace. 16 For, wife, how do you know but that you will save [your] husband? Or, husband, how do you know but that you will save [your] wife?
(Malachi 2:15-16) And there was one who did not do [it], as he had what was remaining of [the] spirit. And what was that one seeking? The seed of God. And YOU people must guard yourselves respecting YOUR spirit, and with the wife of your youth may no one deal treacherously. 16 For he has hated a divorcing,” Jehovah the God of Israel has said; “and the one who with violence has covered over his garment,” Jehovah of armies has said. “And YOU must guard yourselves respecting YOUR spirit, and YOU must not deal treacherously.
(Matthew 19:8-9) He said to them: “Moses, out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness, made the concession to YOU of divorcing YOUR wives, but such has not been the case from [the] beginning. 9 I say to YOU that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.”
(Romans 7:2-3) For instance, a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is alive; but if her husband dies, she is discharged from the law of her husband. 3 So, then, while her husband is living, she would be styled an adulteress if she became another man’s. But if her husband dies, she is free from his law, so that she is not an adulteress if she becomes another man’s.

I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion and i believe that this is not what God planned to happen, but you are definitely still a Christian if you support gay rights. Its kind of like saying that people who...think cussing is ok aren't Christian. That's ridiculous, I know a lot of Christians who cuss! So I think you are still a Christian if you support gay rights. God will always judge you fairly.:-)

50 % of christian marriages end in divorce... I don't think you're gonna get those christians from failed marriages to agree with you. Strangely, fewer atheists divorce than christians... imagine that!

People will be held accountable for their sinful ways....but not by you.
We are all sinners and each of us are PERSONALLY responsible for our relationship with God(or our lack of).
I will not force my beleifs on others as God did not force it on me..it was a choice for me to accept Him.
