define bad, if your talking about the OT bad...and if your parents are fundamentalist, then you should probably know about the story of the man who worked(pick sticks) on the sabbath day...and don't forget that the bible also says that you are supposed to be stoned if you were a rebellious teenager.

If you are a "born-again" believer, and you are an adult, then you are not dishonoring your mother or father, for you are free to make your own choices, and those choices have to be in honor of your heavenly father, Jesus Christ.

Understand that short hair in today's society is a cultural thing; Everyone in Jesus' time (at least how it is depicted) had long hair so why would it be a problem now? What matters is what is in your heart. If you are being "convicted" by the holy spirit, then you must do it. But if you are being convicted (or feel guilty) by your father, then do not. Your father does not rule you, Jesus does (or should be).

I assume that you live in the U.S. where we have much freedom, more so than most other countries. Some will tell you that you are disrespectful for not cutting your hair. I just think that you are a typical American teen. As long as you treat your parents with respect, that is not yelling and swearing and following the rules of the home, you are OK. In this country no one expects you to act like a slave to a Master. That was an old way when the father was the head of the house, like a King and everyone did what he said. Not today. Not in our country.

Of course not. It's your hair - part of your body - and, as someone else said, people love to use God to make others feel guilt.

Remember this:

Respect and obedience are two different things.

You can respect someone through obedience, you can obey someone out of respect... but respect does not REQUIRE obedience.

I don't think the Bible meant you should do whatever they ask you. What if they asked you to hurt someone? That would be a sin. Now, your parents aren't asking you to SIN, per se, but to have your hair long in itself is not a sin. I think the Bible is trying to say that parents should be your moral compass for a while. As hair has nothing to do with morality, keep it long. A real Christian wouldn't care about appearances, so your father is in the wrong.

If you are letting something like a haircut create bad feelings between yourself and your father, then it's not worth it. You don't have to be a Christian to see that some things just make sense. Whenever you argue with someone you love and you find yourself getting nowhere...it may be difficult to change your own position (we're all a little stubborn), but it's nearly impossible to change the other person's.

Its your hair....do what you want with it. I'm not a christian, but I do know there is a certain scripture in the bible that says it is sinful for a man to have long hair. And then I look at the picture of jesus on the next page and wonder.......hmmm.

Well, yes, because you refused to do what he asked of you. But kids often come to a time when they want to be themselves and assert themself in some area of life. Frankly I don't think it is that big a deal.

I think so. I am guilty of ths kind of thing myself, but I see I should have listned to my parents. So, yes, you should listen to your father. This will only make a difference if you are Christian and yo udo this to please God.
