Vit. A, Vit. C

Other things are Lutein (sold at drug stores) and Billberry (an herb). I get all the above at Puritan's pride (a catalog comes to the house but they are also online). They even have an "eye formula" that has all the stuff in it. I have used it before. But I only buy during their sales (like buy one, get one free).

The same vitamins that are good for the rest of the body (all of them!). If you eat a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables, you will get all the vitamins you need. Vitamin supplements are not needed for most people.

Vitamin A.

Fuctions:
-vision in dim light
-skin health
-bone and tooth growth
-antioxidant

Deficiency (hypovitaminosis A) Symptoms:
-painful joints
- night blindness
- corneal degenration leading to blindness
-xenophthalmia (progressive blindness)
-keratinization
-imparied immunity

Toxicity Symptoms:
-red cell breakage
-joint pain, headaches
-abdominal cramping
-blurred vision
-liver damage
-bone fractures
-birth defects

Sources:
retinol (actual vitamin a): fortified milk, cheese, cream, butter and margarine, egg yolk, liver
beta carotene (the body converts this into vitamin a): spinach, broccoli, apricots, cantaloupe, peaches, squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin

All that said, unless you're DEFICIENT in vitamin A, taking extra won't help. Vitamins don't "cure" anything if there is no deficiency in the first place.

Hope that helps.

try Ocuvite or something equivalent, they even make a formula that can be used with your normal vitamins, so that you are not taking excessive amounts of anything. But if you are asking because you have a specific eye disease or family history of one, you might want to ask you ophthalmologist
