I would never lie on an application but would word things very carefully. Sometimes you can group jobs without going into detail like worked temp jobs as clerk for so and so-and so and so. Don't mention the problems. While a job cannot give you a bad reference, they can use tone to imply not to hire you while saying all the proper things. I never ask what went wrong because they can't tell me but I ask would you hire them again. They can answer that. I had a job with terrible people in the office. I told them when I was interviewing that I wanted to work in an office were everyone was nice and polite-friendly would be good, but professional was just fine. They treated each other terribly and me worse. I moved on. When I listed the job-and it was an important reference then-I just said that the job did not turn out to be what they stated it was. That was the truth. If they insist and I will have said I am looking for the same as above, I just say I expected to be treated as a professional and respectfully. That's usually enough said. Anything more is really not their business. They will also understand that respect and professionalism is important to me and I will not work in an office with people that are less than that. If the interview goes downhill I know what type of people they hire and I wouldn't have wanted to work there anyway. We all have jobs where we butt heads with someone or someone tries to take advantage of us that has power over us. If you screwed up, state it carefully, don't dwell on it. And by the way as you get older, applications don't expect you to fill in every job you have ever had-especially if it is an insignificant one such as one where you only worked two months. Be glad to give specific advice if you like. . .

Just don't list them on your resume and they will not know. You can always incorporate what you learned there into the other job when talking to a future employer. I would not list a job that I had held for only 2 months anyways. You do not want to give an employer the idea that you are a "job hopper".

if the company you are trying to get hired at does an extensive background check they can find where you used to work and yes it is true that they cannot ask them if you were a bad employer but they can legally ask if youre eligible for rehire. And your former employer would say yes or no. That is the loop hole.

If you list them on your application, they can call and ask when and how long you worked there, but your ex-employer cannot legally tell your reason for leaving whether you quit or you were fired. They can only tell what kind of worker you were. At least that's how it is here in Indiana.
