Cubby...of course you didn't have a hole there before, since the tooth was there. Don't use the gauze for more than a few hours. By then the bleeding should have stopped. Using it longer will result in the gauze becoming part of the clot, and when you remove the clot, you will also remove the clot (which is what you don't want).
If it is bleeding for more than a few hours try using a wet tea bag the same way you did the gazue. Tea has tanins in it which are natural coagulants or clot helpers.
It will be natural to have a little blood oozing from it and a bloody taste for a few days. Don't worry about this.
ATrench mouth is not something you will need to worry about. However Dry Socket is. Dry Socket is an inflammation of the bone that occurs 3 or 4 days after an extraction. It occurs if a clot did not properly form in the socket or if the clot was lost from the socket. Dry Socket is characterized by an intense pain and a foul smell and taste.
To avoid Dry Socket;
1)Do not spit. Just swallow the saliva even if a little blood is present.
2)Do not smoke
3)Do not suck through a straw
these 3 rules prevent you from forming a vacuum within your mouth that will pull the clot out of the socket.
4)Do not rinse for 24 hours. After that time, you can GENTLY rinse with a little water. Do not swish and just let the water fall out of your mouth. You do not want to wash the clot away.
If you can be gentle around the extraction site for 3-4 days, you should have a decent clot in the socket thereby avoiding Dry Socket. You can brush your teeth as normal, just avoid the extraction site so the bristles do not catch the clot.
Hope that helps.

keep the gauze in there for at least 24 hours. and also it will heal dont worry about the hole. and no it wont fill up, the tooth is out! the complications that u can get at this time is called "trench mouth" (which is an infection), so just follow all the discharge directions u were given by the dentist.

well you can discard the gauze after an hour or two as bleeding usually stops by that time but you need to follow instructions which i am sure must be given to you by your dentist like taking pain killers and antibiotic as per the precription , do not spit out the whole day and swallow all the bleeding the whole day, do not smoke day or two, do not suck fluids with straw , do not eat solid or hard food stuff like nuts and be on semisolid diet for day or two, do not brush in that area, do not keep investigating whether the bleeding has stopped again and again by removing gauze, do not touch the operated site with bare hands , do not apply pressure at the site with your toungue.
if its still bleeding after taking all the above precautions and following instructions than you need to consult your dentist and by the time you can bite on a tea bag on the operated area till you get back to the dentist as it will cause clotting
