i'm going to face a personal interview for a nationalized bank .
i'd taken 1 year break after graduation from 2006. i have been preparing for mba entrance & simultaneously looking for good jobs. so i'm expecting this question: "what u've been doing this 1 year", i don't think i should answer preparing for mba as they may doubt my stay with them. so plz suggest me one smart diplomatic answer. thanking you in advance....

Truth and Plain truth

It is commonly acceptable preparing for MBA entrance

Tell them that you religeously prepared for MBA and attempted to the best of your ability and it was a learning/sharpening process.

You have offers from institutes but hey were not your choice and hence you chose not to compromise on institute quality.

This one year is not a waste but an investment in oneself

Good Luck!
Cheers!

You can tell any good lie. You decided to take a break after college and went to stay with your aunt in --pick another state. You hitchhiked around the country with your college buddy. You backbacked through Europe. You wanted a vacation before you settled down to work. You had worked hard at college and you knew it would be a long time before you had a chance to have an extended vacation. You helped your father build an extention on your house. Or built a huge garage. Just say anything that you will never admit to not doing later. Whatever you say must be the truth forever.
Or just not lie and say that you took an extended vacation before you settled down to work. If you have no job history, that will be the answer they expect. Don't elaborate and don't lie. If they say, that was quite a vacation. Just say yes it was. And move on. . .If you traveled or visited relative or did something that would take some time mention it lightly in passing. People who interview will know if you lie so just prepare yourself.

It is much easier when compared to technical interviews. HR is only looking for how you present yourself and how well you could suit their company environment. Keep a smiling face all the time. Do not get tensed. Be very presentable. Fluency in English is a must... Be confident with your answers and always tell only the truth about your strengths and yourself. If possible go through the company website to know more about the company before facing the interview.. Good Luck......

Tell them truth and also that you hope that it would not be considered as an unfavorable point against you. Do not start your life on the foundations of lies.as they shall never leave you alone later. Its' a proven FACT.Rest, as you wish.Good Luck.
