in the San diego area. i'm 18 and just graduated. i've tried job searches online mostly. i have a applied at a few places but no one has gotten back to me as of yet. any suggestions? please no food places.

You mean you don't want to work in a hospitality industry. Do you have experience? Because employers usually look for people who already have work experience. I just applied for a retail job and I got it. I am also 18 and it is hard to get a job at this kind of age. Another reason is your age. People are really discriminative about age because they know that the younger people they hire won't be paid as much as adults. Try not to apply via online as you don't know if the job is already taken. If you apply in person, you get a better chance of an interview. Make a resume that stands out from everybody else's.

If it's not working for you, you have to do it a different way. If businesses are not getting back to you, you are not filling out the application in a way that will get you the interview for the job. Try handing it to a manager, introduce yourself, shake his hand and tell him you look forward to hearing from him. Make him learn your name. Make him see you are interested and have good manners. If the manager is not in, ask if you can wait or bring it back when he is there. Better to call ahead and find out when the manager will be there and go in then. Dress appropriately, groom yourself for the job and shine your shoes. Get rid of body jewelry and hide all tatooes. Be sure the application is filled out completely and very neatly. Take your personal information and a pen with you so you can. Don't ask for the phone book to get it. Stand straight, sit straight, walk confidently, smile and be polite. You'll hear from them.
