There were many mythological figures: Hercules, Osiris, Bacchus, Mithra, Hermes, Prometheus, Perseus and Horus who share a number of factors. All were believed to have:

Been male.

Lived in pre-Christian times.

Had a god for a father.

Human virgin for a mother.

Had their birth announced by a heavenly display.

Had their birth announced by celestial music.

Been born about DEC-25.

Had an attempt on their life by a tyrant while they were still an infant

Met with a violent death.

Rose again from the dead.

Almost all were believed to have:

Been visited by "wise men" during infancy.

Fasted for 40 days as an adult."

A lot of pre christian gods - were born of virgins

and a lot of them were born on the 25 of Dec - and the list above should give you some idea

The story of jesus was likely just a rip off of other gods Stolen from antiquity

Of the 40 historians of the time of Jesus not one of them mentions him

The bible - thats it

For a guy who walked on water etc

One of the hitorians of jesus day should have said somthing

Unless jesus really was a made up rip off of other gods from other era's

Sweet Suzy 777!

The fear mongering loses some of it's fear when you realise that they have been telling the same story over and over - before the name was jesus Only back then we all knew it was a myth

How could all these "gods" have been born long before jesus - on the same day and by a virgin - ????

The fear just lost all it's fear

With all due respect todd:

The Greek historian Plutarch wrote[8] about pirates of Cilicia, the coastal province in the southeast of Anatolia, who practiced Mithraic "secret rites" around 67 BCE: ---- That would be BEFORE jesus' birth.....

Maybe you need to get YOUR facts straight.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithraism#The_early_period

Moreover:

At Nemrud we find in their midst King Antiochus (69-34 B.C.) and in the inscription Mithras is mentioned together with Zeus-Ahura-Mazda, Hermes, Apollo-Helios and Herakles-Verethraghna.

I know it just means so much that his story be Unique. Unfortunately, it just isn't the case.

Yes...

Repackaging a story and selling it again is common. We are not much different than people of the past.

Planet of the Apes (1960s) = Planet of the Apes (1990s)
Pygmalion (1935) = My Fair Lady (1964)
Hercules son of Zeus (1000 BCE) = Jesus son of god (1 CE)

There is nothing new in Christianity that was not stolen from religions of prior eras.....The "winning" feature of Christianity is it appealed to the lowest common denominator...

Get your facts straight about at least one of these. Mithra was written 400 years AFTER Christ's death and resurrection. So who copied who?

Secondly, does the name JOSEPHUS mean anything to you---he was at least one of the Jewish scholars who wrote about Jesus.

Thirdly, I remember reading lots of Greek myths as a young adult. I was captivated by them. I never read ANYTHING about Hermes raising from the dead, nor Prometheus being born of a virgin, nor Bachhus having been threatened in his infancy by a tyrant. All of these that you have mentioned were supposed gods, but yet there are not a single record of their actual existence. Even the Greeks and Egyptians of those days considered them more as stories than real. yes there were temples built to them, and people did serve in those temples. But people also built temples to Baal, yet no one on record ever has had a conversation with Baal. And you should check out what Elijah did (through God) to the prophets of Baal...

Christ lived. He died. He rose again--appearing before 500 people at once. He was written about by contemporary historians, Josephus was just one. The Jews know He existed. The Muslims do to. The impact He has had on history should tell you that He lived.

I don't know where you get your "facts", but I fear you have not done any real research. I suggest you check out carm.org. I also suggest you check out a book called "The Case For Christ" by Lee Strobel. Don't rely on wikipedia for your knowledge.

Read the lore of the Zoroastrians who's priest were "Magi" and from Babylon (Western Iraq). These are the 3 wise guys in the nativity. BTW they used Astrology to find the magic baby.

So yea, in a word the entire thing is a plagiaristic miracle chronicling stories that go back to the Ice Age, which of course modern Christians couldn't believe in since the earth is only seven thousand years old... but I digress.

It certainly seems like it, especially since i think if i remember right, there is a good number of years between Jesus death and the writing of "gospels". Long enough for history to be re-written. You would think such an important event, all the historians of the time would have been writing about it.

i do not mean this as insult, but most Christian holidays are pagan in origin, the adding of God having a son, was just that added. it is polytheism, added, to entice pagans to Christianity. I will be hated for this, but I feel , God has no children or need to have children, and Jesus ( peace be upon him ) was never crucified. people saw Jesus ( peace be upon him ) do, what in the scheme of things are, very minor miracles, and took him as a God. Jesus ( peace be upon him ) was a very very successful prophet, but one should not confuse the messenger with God.
