We all know this question so why havent the bun makers or hotdog suppliers changed to matching package quantities? should we complain more? I guess there has never been a hotdog crisis but come on it only seems reasonable to match the quantities?

There are actually more hot dogs than buns. And it's because people suck. I'm sure someone thought it would be funny. And you have to buy two packs of hot dog buns to every pack of hot dogs, so maybe it's a marketing ploy. If it is, it's a stupid one.

It turns out that the reason hot dog buns usually come in packs of 8-12 boils down to being able to ship, stock, and manufacture the easiest without crushing the buns. Stacking buns on shelves in larger packages just wouldn't be possible and smaller packages are just a waste of materials.

Because the hotdog bun makers count on some of the buns falling apart

There's always one more than the other because at the end... they want you to keep coming for more. The company producers know that the last hotdog or bun will be one that satisfies so it's their scheme. It works every time, but somehow my dad manages to get 8 buns and 8 hotdogs...lol maybe he figured out the system. lol

Its so you purchase more of each product.

8 buns to 6 hotdogs means you have to buy 3 packages of buns and 4 packages of hotdogs to even it out.

Both groups win and were stuck with leftovers....lol

Why are there more buns than hotdogs? So there's somewhere to put the Italian Sausage (with grilled onions and green peppers, of course!)

I think they are all in cahoots! They want you to buy more hot dogs then more buns then more hot dogs for the left over buns or visa versa. Its the great hot dog conspiracy!

It's probably because when you open the package, one of them will unavoidably fall on the floor. Everyone needs a spare. . .
